Courtney Love had to “fake her way through a three-hour conversation on Muse” with Chris Martin

Courtney Love has recalled the time she had to “fake her way through” a lengthy chat about Muse with Coldplay frontman Chris Martin.

The soloist and former Hole frontwoman told the story while appearing as a panellist on tonight’s episode of Never Mind The Buzzcocks (October 16).

“I went to see Coldplay at the National History Museum [in 2019], and I love many things about Chris Martin,” Love remembered (via Music News).

“A – he’s a feminist in the best way, and B – I had to fake my way through a three-hour conversation on Muse. I faked it really good. That’s not the point…”

Elsewhere on the music quiz show, Love told East 17‘s Terry Coldwell that the boyband’s hit festive single ‘Stay Another Day’ is “on [her] Christmas playlist every year”.

In response to the grunge icon’s unlikely admission, Coldwell said: “I saw you on YouTube, saying it was one of your favourite songs!”

Back in 2007, Love praised a 2003 Muse single during an interview with Spinner.

“The only song that I wish I had written in the last few years was a Muse song – ‘Time Is Running Out’,” she explained. “I really like that song. I was like, ‘Damn, I could’ve written that if I tried – if the circumstances were right. That’s not outside of my skill set.’”

Coldplay bassist Guy Berryman has previously reflected on supporting Matt Bellamy and co. just before the release of Coldplay debut album, ‘Parachutes’.

“We supported Muse in May 2000 for a few dates around the UK,” he wrote. “It was great fun as we both started our bands around the same time. They are a great band and incredible musicians.”

In 2012, frontman Martin called Muse’s single ‘Madness’ their “best song ever”.

Speaking to NME recently around the release of Coldplay’s new album ‘Moon Music’, Martin praised Muse’s 2001 cover of Nina Simone‘s ‘Feeling Good’ – which appears on their second record, ‘Origin Of Symmetry’.

“I first heard this song being covered by Muse, every night when we opened for them back in 2000,” Martin recalled. “I was like, ‘Oh this band are really good and that Nina Simone song is amazing’.”

Martin selected the original version of the track for his exclusive NME playlist to accompany the singer’s wide-ranging interview.

In 2018, Kill Your Friends author John Niven remembered telling both Muse and Coldplay “to get fucked” instead of signing them when he worked as an A&R man in the 1990s.

The new series of Never Mind The Buzzcocks premieres tonight at 9pm BST tonight on Sky Max and NOW.

Elsewhere in the first episode, team captain Noel Fielding revealed that he was once stopped by police while wearing Courtney Love’s pyjamas, while Sex Pistols‘ Glen Matlock recalled how David Bowie kept original artworks by Picasso and Matisse in his car.
