Thrash metal band Belushi Speed Ball release ‘Dookie’ version of single on dog poo after feeling “ripped off” by Green Day.

Last month (October 9), the punk rock band announced a special “demastered” version of their 1994 album ‘Dookie’ – they teamed up with LA art studio BRAIN to share 15 songs from its tracklist as transferred onto a range of unconventional, impractical and low-quality formats, including a doorbell, a Game Boy cartridge, a floppy disk and more.

Belushi Speed Ball didn’t take too kindly to the band’s quirky album release drop, comparing it to their own line of unconventional record releases in a written statement via Consequence yesterday (November 6).

“Here at Belushi Speed Ball Incorporated, we pride ourselves in the artisan crafting of our hand made merchandise items, which over the years we have provided the fans with albums on Super Nintendo, Gameboy Advanced, Nintendo 64, Sega Cd, VHS, Furby, Pizza, 8-track, and Teddy Ruxpin. Which we have busted our butts to get noticed by the masses,” they write.

“And in one single swoop, Green Day comes in and instantly is revered as innovative merch geniuses. Is this… is this how getting ripped off feels?!?”

In response, Belushi Speed Ball have released their song ‘This Is the Peak’ – taken from their latest album ‘Stellkira’ – as a piece of Labrador poop preserved in bowl of resin.

The “one of one” release is available via eBay – per Consequence, the band’s “dog poop” ‘This Is The Peak’ has reached bids up to US$11.50. However, as of writing, the item’s eBay page is currently offline.

Belushi Speed Ball frontman Vinny Castellano explained the unique release to MetalSucks: “After the shock of Green Day’s announcement set in. A fellow bestie, Scott McGovern, turned to me and said ‘Well at least they didn’t do Pizza!’ And I jokingly said, ‘We should release a song on Dookie.’ And then WE MADE IT HAPPEN!”

“We are now offering the world the first ever, Dog Poop Single,” he continued. “You can listen to us gush about Fantano’s thighs through a heaping smoldering chunk of Labrador Feces. Which we have forever preserved in resin. This is a 1 of 1 item from us, which we will NEVER make again.”

Green Day wrote more about the ‘Dookie’ “reissue”: “Instead of smoothing out its edges and tweaking its dynamic ranges, this version of ‘Dookie’ has been meticulously mangled to fit on formats with uncompromisingly low fidelity, from wax cylinders to answering machines to toothbrushes,” reads a description on the band’s new website for the release.

“The listening experience is unparalleled, sacrificing not only sonic quality, but also convenience, and occasionally entire verses. The result is ‘Dookie Demastered’: the album that exploded the format of punk rock, re-exploded onto 15 obscure, obsolete, and otherwise inconvenient formats, the way it was never meant to be heard.”

The items were sold to fans via a lucky draw, where chosen entrants were given the option to purchase.
