Gwen Stefani has spoken further about the recent No Doubt reunion at Coachella 2024.
The pop star reunited with the band to perform at the festival on both weekends, marking their first shows since 2015.
No Doubt were originally together in their first run between 1986 and 2005, with their first reunion lasting from 2008 to 2015. In 2016, Stefani cast doubt on a possible second reunion in an interview with Rolling Stone, stating that the band members had “grown apart as far as what kind of music we want to make”.
However, the band’s latest reunion was announced in January – and Stefani feels it went better than expected, as she revealed in a new interview with HELLO! Magazine.
“Performing at Coachella and feeling all that love for us after all this time was kind of overwhelming,” she said, per BANG. “We hadn’t done anything together for so long, so to do that and be there for each other, with all of our families, meant so much to me.”
She added: “It had been so long but it was as if we had never been apart.”
In October, Stefani spoke about the reunion with NME. “The No Doubt thing was so crazy. It’s not like we made a decision to not do anything, or not hang out or talk,” she said.
“Everybody’s lives just happened. You know, the time we stopped [in 2015] was when I was going through my horrible family breakup – I don’t like to say the word ‘divorce’, because it’s just such a disgusting word. But my life just blew up, it really did.”
“A lot of people are like, ‘Why did it take so long [for No Doubt to reform]?’ But when you have a family, eight years goes by like that. To heal from what happened, I mean it’s still happening, I’m still trying to get through it.”
She added that they are “gonna do something again at some point”, but “it just has to be the right thing that makes sense [with] all of our schedules.” Stefani released her latest solo album ‘Bouquet’ in November.
In September, it was revealed that Gabriel “The Gun” Gonzalez, the original trumpet player of No Doubt, died at age 57 following a motorcycle accident that took place in Hermosa Beach, California.
