The Weeknd has announced the release date for his upcoming film, Hurry Up Tomorrow, tying into his upcoming album of the same name.
It was reported last year that the singer – real name Abel Tesfaye – had been working on a film with Jenna Ortega and Barry Keoghan. At the time, the film was unnamed until last month when Deadline reported that the film would be titled ‘Hurry Up Tomorrow’ and would serve as “an extension” to his sixth album of the same name.
Today (December 20), Tesfaye took to his official X/Twitter account to announce that the film will be released on May 16 2025. As per Deadline’s report, the film – Directed by Trey Edward Shults – will also star the ‘Starboy’ singer and will be a psychological thriller. The film will be distributed by Lionsgate.

Adam Fogelson, chair of Lionsgate Motion Picture Group, said in a statement to Deadline: “Abel is a visionary whose art cannot be confined by any single medium. With Hurry Up Tomorrow, in partnership with Trey, his musical universe expands onto the big screen with a psychological thriller that will usher in a new cinematic experience for fans. We are thrilled to be bringing it to audiences worldwide.”
It was also reported that Tesfaye worked alongside Daniel Lopatin (aka Oneohtrix Point Never) on the film’s score. The two had previously worked together on 2022’s ‘Dawn FM‘ where Lopatin remixed the LP’s title track.
Set for release on January 24, 2025, ‘Hurry Up Tomorrow’ will serve as the final instalment of the ‘Blinding Lights’ singer’s album trilogy, following 2020’s ‘After Hours‘ and ‘Dawn FM‘.
The musician had shared teasers of the album in the form of his previous collab with Playboi Carti, ‘Timeless’, which was co-produced by Pharrell, and another new track called ‘Dancing In The Flames’ which arrived back in September. He also previewed various unreleased songs recently, including ‘Wake Me Up’, ‘Take Me Back To LA’ and ‘Open Hearts’.
Tesfaye also shared the album’s cover on his social media. The artwork features a simple close-up shot of his face, a departure from the facial prosthetics seen in his ‘After Hours’ era.
‘Hurry Up Tomorrow’ is available for pre-order here. The album is available in exclusive vinyl, box sets, and signed CDs.
The ‘Save Your Tears’ singer also announced that he will be performing a massive one-night-only live stadium show at the Rose Bowl Stadium in Pasadena, California, on Saturday (January 25 2025) which will see him debut a never-before-seen production. The stage will take over the entire floor of the stadium, for a must-see in-the-round experience. Visit here to purchase tickets.
In other news, The Weeknd recently praised Ariana Grande’s performance as Glinda in Wicked.
Elsewhere, it was announced that The Weeknd had made history by becoming the first artist in history to have 22 songs with over one billion streams each on Spotify.
