BLACKPINK’s Lisa says auditioning for ‘The White Lotus’ was “not easy”

BLACKPINK member Lisa has opened up about the process behind her audition for her debut role in the latest season of The White Lotus.

BLACKPINK’s Lisa recently spoke with The Wrap about her role in the recently released third season of The White Lotus, which also marked her small screen debut. She told the outlet that her involvement in the popular series was due to a desire to “switch to a new chapter in my life”.

”The White Lotus opportunity came in, and [I] was like, ‘Why not just give it a try?’,” she told The Wrap. “I’m a big fan of The White Lotus already – I have to try, even if I don’t get it.”.

According to the outlet, Lisa’s name was brought up by a co-producer and casting director during the production’s Thailand casting. Executive producer Dave Bernad recalled that he and creator Mike White were unfamiliar with BLACKPINK or Lisa at the time: “We treated it like we treated every other casting.”

Lisa recounted sending a video tape and getting a callback, which led to her doing an audition for Mike White in person. “I got a call that I got the role,” the musician recalled. “It was not easy.”

Bernad also shared that while there was some “nervousness” among the production team about whether Lisa’s casting would cause any distractions, saying “[Is there] going to be a certain expectation from her in terms of being an international pop star?”

However, these worries were eventually dispelled. “She could not be more down to earth as a human … her approach to it was as professional and as dedicated as everyone else was,” he concluded.

Lisa went on to share that “acting is like a new world to me”, adding that she “[didn’t] know what to expect on set” of the series. “There’s a lot of close-up shots [and] different angles and I have to do exactly the same. I was like, ‘This is insane,’ but I really had fun while shooting it,” she said.

On the music front, Lisa most recently dropped a new collaboration single with Doja Cat and RAYE titled ‘Born Again’, marking the fourth track lifted from her upcoming debut solo album ‘Alter Ego’ so far. The record is due out in full on February 28.
