Dave has spoken out about his waning confidence in Manchester United, and said as long as the team is owned by the Glazers it “will never know peace”.

The rapper has been a longtime supporter of the Manchester team, and made numerous mentions to the club in his tracks, including shouting out player Amad Diallo in 2023 in his track ‘UK Rap’.

Now, following a tough season and increasing fan frustration with the club’s ownership, the artist has taken to X/Twitter to explain how he is losing faith in the club and becoming increasingly jaded by its apparent climate.

“Such a dark negative energy around man united. Deeper than football. As long as the glazers are in power we will never know peace,” he wrote. “So called club legends using nostalgia and bullying players who have had to play under situations that they have never been exposed to or understood.”

He continued: “For their own personal gain that is. I see through it now. I don’t feel much when Man United play. The soul of the team is gone. It’s all so strange. Open heart surgery, but our surgeons are crack addicts. We turn on our best players. Replace them with worse. Cycle repeats.”

There has been widespread fan protest since the Glazers took over the team in 2005, and for two decades their ownership has led to many supporters claiming that the club has under-achieved, faced high levels of debt and seen ill-equipped people given authority.

There was further backlash recently when the team announced that there would be a price increase in match tickets for members for the remainder of the season, resulting in protests towards the end of 2024.

Further controversy has trickled into 2025 too, as the Glazers reportedly pulled out of a controversial bid to buy another sports team – the cricket club Manchester Originals. According to Daily Mail, the Glazers had a keen interest in acquiring the team when it went to auction but pulled out after being warned by people working in the process.

Dave’s decreasing confidence in the team also comes amid a tough season for Man U. They faced a tough losing streak in their final matches of 2024 – losing 4-3 to Tottenham, 3-0 to Bournemouth, 2-0 to Wolves and 2-0 to Newcastle. The team has also had an uncertain start to 2025, recently losing 2-0 to Crystal Palace this past Sunday (February 2), as well as a 3-1 loss to Brighton last month.

As for other Dave news, the rapper has recently received a nod at the upcoming BRITS 2025, up for a trophy in the Hip Hop/Grime/Rap category, against Stormzy, Central Cee, Ghetts and Little Simz.
