Razorlight have announced a UK headline tour to take place in April and May this year – see the full list of shows and ticket details below.

The band released ‘Planet Nowhere’ in October, the first full-length album with their classic line-up since 2008. Their fifth studio LP in total, it included the singles ‘Scared Of Nothing’, ‘Zombie Love’ and ‘Taylor Swift = US Soft Propaganda’.

Now, Johnny Borrell and co have announced a run of nine headline shows in the UK, which will kick off in Southampton’s O2 Guildhall on April 26. From there, they will take in Sheffield, Birmingham and Bath, before hitting London’s Roundhouse on May 1.

Further dates in Norwich, Liverpool and Nottingham will follow, before they wrap the tour with a show at Glasgow’s SWG3 Galvanizers on May 7. Fans can sign up now for exclusive pre-sale access here, while tickets will go on general sale at 9am on February 14 and you will be able to find yours here.

Speaking about the tour, Borrell has said: “I’ve been playing live music for 30 years and I’ve seen so many great bands in my life. Music saved my life a million times and still does. Right now I reckon about 90% of the time in rock music, the musicians on stage are playing along to a backing track. A generation of young bands are coming-of-age in a time where doing this is the norm and I’m trying to highlight that musicians playing live without the click or backing track is in danger of becoming a lost art.”

“There’s a world of identity, interaction and creativity that comes when you get off the musical grid. I believe it’s part of what gives each band its own unique sound.”

Razorlight will play:

APRIL
26 – Southampton, O2 Guildhall
27 – Sheffield, Foundry
29 – Birmingham, O2 Institute
30 – Bath, Forum

MAY
1 – London, Roundhouse
3 – Norwich, UEA
4 – Liverpool, O2 Academy
6 – Nottingham, Rock City
7 – Glasgow, SWG3 Galvanizers

It follows a run of six intimate shows the band played in October, in which they focused on the new material. “They offered us a massive tour playing the greatest hits, again,” they explained about the small-scale gigs. “But we’re telling you we believe in this album. So we’re going to prove it on the road. You know, like a band. We said no to the big tour and will be playing 6 tiny venues around the UK. All the songs from the new album. And some classic RZLT.”

In addition to the new tour, Razorlight will also play two shows supporting James in Plymouth and Cannock in June and as part of Kaiser Chiefs’ ‘Employment’ 20th anniversary show in May.

Borrell spoke to NME last year about the impetus for making the new album, explaining that he would have considered ending the band if they hadn’t been able to make it.

“I said to everyone: ‘If new music doesn’t work, let’s move on.’ I was ready to ceremonially say goodbye to Razorlight,” he said. “It would have been a major deal. I was contemplating all kinds of ways to end it, some involving Japanese swords. But this album wanted to be made.”
