Miley Cyrus “explores her deep connection to fashion” on explosive single ‘Something Beautiful’

Miley Cyrus has shared her explosive new single ‘Something Beautiful’ from her forthcoming album of the same name.

The song opens with a slow R&B sound and Cyrus singing: “Tell me somethin’ beautiful, yeah, tonight / Until your lips turn blue,” before getting to the song’s explosive and electrifying chorus of: “Boy, I’m losin’ my breath, yes / Boy, you’re markin’ up my necklace / Boy, I’m losin’ my breath / I’m undressin’, confessin’ that I’m so obsessed, yes,” which trades in the slower, softer beat for something more grand and rock heavy.

Directed by Cyrus, Jacob Bixenman and Brendan Walter, the song’s accompanying music video sees the singer sporting a giant fluffy black coat and walking into a dark room to perform the track. She then takes off the jacket, revealing a black flowing cut-out dress, and performs the song with a band as lights burst and fall from the ceiling with sparks flying as a windstorm erupts during the incendiary chorus.

Speaking about the music video in a tweet shared on the singer’s official X/Twitter account, someone from her team shared: “Miley’s second song and video release ‘Something Beautiful’, the title track off of the forthcoming album, explores her deep connection to fashion showcasing an original custom design by Casey Cadwallader for the House of Mugler in the visual. This era marks another bold artistic evolution for Miley, blending music and film into an immersive experience.”

‘Something Beautiful’ is the second track to be released today (March 31) from Cyrus’ forthcoming album of the same name. Earlier today, she released the dramatic and ominous ‘Prelude’.

The singer-songwriter is due to release the “bold” record on May 30 via Columbia, and has already revealed its striking cover art. Cyrus serves as executive producer on the LP, alongside Shawn Everett (Kacey Musgraves, Alabama Shakes).

Following on from 2023’s ‘Endless Summer Vacation’, the project will also be accompanied by a “visual” film version – directed by Cyrus, Jacob Bixenman and Brendan Walter. This is set to arrive in cinemas in June.

The ‘Something Beautiful’ film has been called “a one-of-a-kind pop opera from the mind of Miley Cyrus”. The official description reads: “A unique visual experience, fuelled by fantasy, including 13 original songs from the upcoming album.”

In a four-star review of ‘Endless Summer Vacation’, NME wrote: “It all adds up to an album that holds your full attention even if it isn’t Cyrus’s boldest or most visionary. ‘Endless Summer Vacation’ certainly feels like an accurate reflection of who she is as an artist – and a person – in 2023.”
