Sean Lennon has hit out at Snow White star Rachel Zegler, calling her a “spoiled, ungrateful and disconnected brat”.

Lennon, the son of Yoko Ono and late Beatles icon John Lennon, recently took to X/Twitter to say he “agree[d] the vilification” of Zegler had gone “too far”.

However, the musician added: “But she also acts like a spoiled, ungrateful and disconnected brat. So it’s no surprise.”  The post has since been deleted.

This came after Zegler’s political opinions put her at odds with Disney, which reportedly hired a “social media guru” to vet her posts during the press tour for the new live-action remake of Snow White.

Following last year’s Presidential election, the actor wrote “Fuck Donald Trump” and “May Trump supporters … and Trump himself never know peace” online. The statement drew criticism from conservative commentators, leading Zegler to later apologise.

Additionally, there had been divisive reactions to her comments about Palestine.

These controversies, as well as abusive comments about the Latin actor’s casting, are believed to have led to Snow White‘s disappointing box office opening. The movie has been review-bombed on IMDB, where it is currently ranked among the worst films ever.

In a separate post earlier, Lennon reportedly called Zegler and her Snow White co-star Gal Gadot “exceptionally beautiful women”, responding to sexist comments about their appearance (via The Independent).

Meanwhile, Jonah Platt – son of Snow White producer Marc Platt – has hit out at Zegler for “dragging her personal politics into the middle of promoting the movie for which she signed a multi-million dollar contract to get paid and do publicity for”.

He also said that the actor’s “actions [had] clearly hurt the film’s box office”, adding: “Free speech does not mean you’re allowed to say whatever you want in your private employment without repercussions.”

Zegler first sparked backlash among conservative and right-wing commentators in 2023, when she suggested the remake would be more feminist than the original film, which was released in 1937.

“It’s no longer 1937 – she’s not going to be saved by the prince, and she’s not going to be dreaming about true love,” she explained at the time. “She’s dreaming about becoming the leader she knows she can be.”

The actor backtracked on the comments ahead of the film’s release. This came after she agreed to work with a social media specialist who approved all her posts in the run-up to Snow White being released earlier this month.

The film received a poor response from critics as well, with a “rotten” 41 per cent score on review aggregator Rotten Tomatoes. Here, the critics consensus reads: “Snow White is hardly a grumpy time at the movies thanks to Rachel Zegler’s luminous star turn, but its bashful treatment of the source material along with some dopey stylistic choices won’t make everyone happy, either.”

Gal Gadot, who is Israeli, and plays the Evil Queen in the remake, recently shrugged off the backlash to her past pro-Israel comments. “When your compass is clear, your conscience is clean,” she said. “I know what I’m advocating for, and I know what I wish for the world.”

Gadot served as part of the Israeli Defence Force in the ‘00s, and been a vocal supporter of Israel during the Hamas war and conflict with Palestine. She was also among 700 Hollywood stars who signed an open letter supporting Israel in the days after the initial Hamas attack.

Elsewhere, Pedro Pascal has expressed his support for Zegler amid Snow White‘s poor reception, calling her an “icon”.

Last summer, Sean Lennon called Prince Harry an “idiot” in response to his memoir Spare. He wrote: “My long awaited review of Prince Harry’s autobiography is two words.‘Spare Me’.”

2024 also saw the singer-songwriter team up with Paul McCartney’s son James on a joint track, ‘Primrose Hill’. Later that year, Lennon claimed that his mother “never has moved on from [her] relationship” with his late father.
