Stromae and Pomme release ‘Arcane’-inspired video for ‘Ma Meilleure Ennemie’

‘Ma Meilleure Ennemie’ was originally released as part of the Arcane season two soundtrack and Stromae’s collaboration with Pomme has gone on to rack up more than 315million streams on Spotify.

The track was featured in a pivotal moment of Arcane’s second season, soundtracking a dance between Ekko and Powder. “My first reaction when I saw the scene was, frankly, I found it quite poetic,” said Stromae.

“Even to this day, it’s a song that continues to exist in people’s lives, and I think what happened is really magical… I actually understood the people’s reaction and enthusiasm because there was a beauty, a romanticism and sweetness which is quite rare in the series. There was something special about that episode,” added Pomme.

The song also marked Stromae’s return to music after taking a break in 2023 for health issues.

Director Tom Gouill of Animators Fortiche Production told NME about his inspiration for the music video.”Our ambition was to merge Jinx’s dreamlike world with a music video aesthetic, integrating the dance sequence from episode 207 while preserving its beauty and impact,” he explained.

“To achieve this, we chose to combine live-action techniques with Arcane’s signature rendering. By filming the dance on a cathode screen, we introduced a layer of nostalgia, a subtle nod to the fact that Arcane has ended,” he continued. “We also incorporated distinctive music video staging, such as Ekko and Powder singing back-to-back and strobe light effects. These choices create a sense of continuity, referencing past moments.”

“While the overall visual identity remains deeply connected to the series’ art direction, we emphasised colour grading to enhance emotional expression. Warm, red colours symbolise love and tenderness, while cold tones like blue and green highlight Jinx’s distress and inner turmoil.To maintain authenticity, we embraced the analog grain of the cathode screen, integrating it as part of the video’s visual signature. This added an extra layer of texture, making the visuals feel more organic and less digital.”

The second and final season of Arcane premiered last year, but a number of other League Of Legends spin-offs are in the works. Speaking about the decision to end the show, co-creator Christian Linke said: “From the very beginning, since we started working on this project, we had a very specific ending in mind. But Arcane is just the first of many stories that we want to tell in Runeterra.”

Earlier this year, it was confirmed a deluxe version of the Arcane season two soundtrack will be released in the coming months. The news came alongside a haunting reworking of ‘What Have They Done To Us’ by Sasha Alex Sloan.

In other news, God Of Wars fans are getting a massive vinyl boxset to celebrate the series’ 20th anniversary.
