Strange Basin #5 with the Zombie
At their recent Coachella 2025 set, punk band Circle Jerks’ Keith Morris rallied the audience and called for “an army of” Luigi Mangiones.
Per SFGate, Morris ended their performance of ‘Coup D’Etat’ – which ends with the lyric, “Kill all” – by delivering a small addendum to the 1983 song, taken from their third album ‘Golden Shower Of Hits’.
“That song, that last line, ends with ‘kill all.’ That’s a pretty fucking ugly statement,” Morris said to the crowd. “In ugly times. Do not think that we encourage that.”
However, he clarified: “What we do encourage – what would be totally fucking happening – would be an army of Luigis,” seemingly referring to the alleged killer.
Mangione, aged 26, made international headlines in December when he allegedly shot and killed UnitedHealthcare CEO Brian Thompson outside a Manhattan hotel.
Throughout their four-decade tenure, the punk band have never been shy with their political inclinations.
Per SFGate, later in the set, Morris called out his sister as someone who voted for “that guy,” as he put it, as a nod to US president Donald Trump – stating that he could no longer really visit her, using the description “white Christian nationalist” in a fiery tirade.
Earlier this month, per BBC, US prosecutors expressed that they intend to seek the death penalty for Mangione. Attorney General Pam Bondi said in a statement that she had directed federal prosecutors to seek capital punishment for the “premeditated, cold-blooded assassination”. The statement was then criticised by Mangione’s lawyer as “barbaric”.
Mangione currently faces 11 state criminal counts in New York, including first-degree murder and murder as a crime of terrorism.
Elsewhere at Coachella last weekend, Kneecap responded to fans who claimed that their set was cut from the livestream after leading an anti-Thatcher chant. Morris’ comments, meanwhile, have been left unedited on the stream.
They wrote: “Not the only thing that was cut – our messaging on the US-backed genocide in Gaza somehow never appeared on screens either. Back next Friday Coachella and it’ll be sorted. Grma to everyone who packed out the tent.”
