Danielle Haim has opened up about HAIM’s new single ‘Everybody’s Trying to Figure Me Out’ saying that “writing it has gotten me through some hard times.”
The Los Angeles sister trio returned last month with a breezy, R&B-tinged track called ‘Relationships’, which arrived with a Drew Starkey-starring music video. A press release noted that it offered “a contrast to the forthcoming album’s rock sound”.
Now, Danielle – who sings lead vocals on the track – has taken to Instagram to talk about the inspiration behind the band’s next single, which arrives this Friday (April 4), saying that she wrote the song after suffering a panic attack.
In the post, Danielle wrote: “This next song we will be releasing is my favorite song we’ve written in the last couple years…writing it has gotten me through some hard times, and we felt this might be of some use to get our vibes right for this summer! I started writing this after a panic attack I had the night I got home from tour. I was very confused because I was SO SO SO happy about our incredible tour, but something about being alone with myself scared the shit out of me.
“After a lot of reflecting I realised I’ve let a lot of people try and tell me how I should live my life, but I realized in making everyone else happy, I lost myself.”
She went on to say she wrote the song “as a way to believe in myself again and quit being scared to do what I want. I hope this finds anyone who needs it.”

The band suggested that another single was incoming recently by sending a text message to their mailing list. “You guys ready for another[?]” it read. They then shared a video on TikTok, revealing that there would be a “new song tease this week.”
Haim are yet to announce their fourth studio album, which will follow 2020’s ‘Women In Music Pt. III’. During a recent interview, the trio revealed that the record would feature an as-yet-uncleared sample of George Michael’s ‘Freedom! ’90’.
The track in question, titled ‘Gone’, is the opening track to the new LP, and reportedly captures the feeling of clarity after a break-up. The record will also contain a song called ‘Take Me Back’.
Alana Haim told I-D that the upcoming album was “the closest we’ve ever gotten to how we wanted to sound”, adding that it was a “completely different experience” recording this time around.
Haim once again worked with producer Rostam Batmanglij (Vampire Weekend, Clairo) on the record.
“Working with Rostam, in general it’s very quick, kinetic with him, which I really love as an artist,” Danielle explained. “Maybe before, it wasn’t that way, it was kind of a more… longer, searching, laboured situation.”
In other news, Haim have been added to the line-up for Radio 1’s Big Weekend 2025. The event is set to take place at Sefton Park in Liverpool next month. The group are also scheduled to make appearances at Primavera Sound in Barcelona and Porto this summer.
Meanwhile, Danielle Haim has teamed up with Bon Iver on his new single ‘If Only I Could Wait’.
