Metallica have announced details of a deluxe reissue of the ‘Load’ album, along with a remastered version of ‘Until It Sleeps’. Find out more below.
The new 2025 version of the band’s five-times platinum album is set for release on June 13, via their own label Blackened Recordings. Visit here to pre-order.
Remastered by Reuben Cohen, and with Greg Fidelman overseeing, those who pre-order the deluxe box version of the album will receive early access to new versions of the hit single ‘Until It Sleeps’. These include the aforementioned remastered edition, as well as a Herman Melville Mix of the song, a live version recorded in 1996 Live at Slim’s in San Francisco, and a Rough Chorus Vocal Idea Mix called ‘F.O.B.D’.
The reissue of the thrash pioneer’s sixth album will also be available as a 180g 2xLP release, as well as on CD, cassette and digitally.
Those pre-ordering different variants of the reissue will have access to different versions of songs on the tracklist early. The 2xLP, 3xCD expanded and deluxe digital versions, for instance will, for the first time feature the extended version of ‘The Outlaw Torn’. This was originally edited for release due to time constraints of the CD format.
Other special features in the 2025 limited edition deluxe box set include previously unreleased demos, rough mixes, live performances, on-air and television appearances, and much more – all from the 1995-97 era. You can find out more about the different variations of the album here.
Elsewhere in the box set, there is a ‘Mama Said’ picture disc, patches, posters, guitar picks, lyric sheets, a deluxe 128-page book, and ‘Loadapalooza ’96’ – a 140g triple album recorded live during Metallica’s Lollapalooza headline show at Irvine Meadows Amphitheatre on August 4, 1996.
The original ‘Load’ album was released in the summer of 1996, and marked the band’s second album to debut at the top of the charts. It would remain on the Billboard 200 for four weeks.
As for other Metallica news, the band are currently gearing up to hit the road again as part of their extensive ‘M72’ world tour, which has run over the past two years and celebrates the release of latest album ‘72 Seasons’.
Earlier this month they confirmed that they had added more dates to the schedule, one of which will see them head over to Bahrain for their first live performance in the country. It will be held on December 3 at the Beyon Al Dana Amphitheatre. Another new date included a stop at the Abu Dhabi F1 Grand Prix at Yas Island.
Since then the band’s lead guitarist Kirk Hammett has spoken about the future of live shows for the thrash icons, and shared that he would love for them to book some residency shows at the Sphere in Las Vegas.
