Mick Jagger is engaged to his longtime partner, Melanie Hamrick, but the two have shared that they are not sure whether or not they will get married.

The Rolling Stones frontman, now aged 81, has been in a relationship with the choreographer and former ballerina – who is now aged 37 – for over a decade now, and it has recently been shared that they are engaged.

Hamrick shared the news during a new interview with Paris Match, and revealed that the rock legend actually proposed “two or three years ago”.

She also added that while they have been engaged for a while now, they remain uncertain as to whether they will fully commit to tying the knot.

“Maybe one day we’ll marry, maybe not. We are so happy in our current life that I would be too afraid to change anything,” she explained. “We try to support each other, be there for each other, and make sure everyone is happy. That’s all that matters to me and all I strive for.”

The two met while Jagger was on tour with the Stones, and began dating in 2014. They share a son together called Deveraux, who was born in 2016.

Speculation about their engagement first arose in 2023, when Hamrick revealed that the diamond ring she was spotted wearing came following the singer giving her “a promise ring”.

“I mean, I have to giggle because did Mick give me the ring? Yes. Is it for that finger? Yes,” she said to People. “But are we like, horny teenagers where we’re giving each other… In my mind, it’s a promise ring. We’ll be immature and call it a promise ring.”

Jagger has been married once before, to Bianca Jagger from 1971 through to 1978, and they share one child together. As highlighted by Consequence, he also has children with Marsha Hunt, Jerry Hall, and Luciana Gimenez Morad.

News of Jagger’s engagement comes after he and his bandmates dropped ‘Hackney Diamonds’ in 2023 – marking their 24th studio album and first body of new material since 2005’s ‘A Bigger Bang’. It included guest appearances from Lady Gaga, Elton John, Paul McCartney and Stevie Wonder, and featured the last recordings of the band’s late drummer Charlie Watts.

Already the group have taken the new material on the road, playing 20 huge concerts in North America last year. Reports claim that 880,000 tickets were sold for these gigs and the tour generated approximately $235 million (£185.1m) – placing it at Number Six on the highest-grossing music world tours of 2024. Since then, rumours have arisen claiming that they have scrapped plans to bring the tour to the UK and Europe.

In a four-star review of ‘Hackney Diamonds’, NME described it as an “absolute barnstormer”, adding: “But if ‘Hackney Diamonds’ does round off the most successful career in rock music ever, it wouldn’t be a bad place to leave it. A natural end, but definitely not a normal one.”

Ronnie Wood also spoke to NME about the “explosive” songs on the album and how they would translate live. “I have complete faith. We could play the whole album, you know what I mean? But [Mick and Keith] will go, ‘Oh no Ron, that’s so ambitious’. We’re not gonna forget the back catalogue,” he said.
