Nick Cave has spoken out about a “glorious” album he is currently enjoying.
The Bad Seeds frontman took to his Red Hand Files blog to hail Cameron Winter‘s recent solo album ‘Heavy Metal’.
He drew particular attention to the Geese frontman’s track ‘Drinking Age’, quoting the song’s lyrics: “Today, I met who I’m gonna be from now on / And he’s a piece of shit.”
“On Sunday morning, I wandered through the little town of Lititz in Lancaster County, Pennsylvania, where I had been rehearsing with The Bad Seeds,” Cave began.
“The streets were wet and empty, and the sun had finally come out, making it feel like the world was emerging from a less complicated time. I found a place to eat called the Tomato Pie Café, ordered eggs and coffee, and gazed out the window at the cherry blossoms blazing in the sunlight.”
He then quoted a Job 26:13-14 from the Bible before adding: “I listened to Cameron Winter’s startling, wigged-out album, ‘Heavy Metal’. A glorious, emotive voice with brilliant, blistering words, a racked and wondrous thing – ‘Today, I met who I’m gonna be from now on / And he’s a piece of shit’. Amazing.”
‘Heavy Metal’ was produced by Loren Humphrey (Arctic Monkeys, Lana Del Rey) who previously worked with Winter on Geese’s 2023 LP ‘3D Country‘.
Speaking about where the inspiration for his album came from, the former NME Cover artist recently told us: “Well, I had a traumatic childhood, you know, all that sort of thing. I was concussed many times as a boy and I developed a love for Tom Waits and a fondness for all those people that you’ve mentioned.”
“My love for Weird Al actually developed before my love for any of those other people, so maybe that’s sort of a foundational thing that has become part of the gradient of my references,” he continued.
“That’s as well as anyone could describe it. I often am really terrible at describing the stuff I make to anybody.”
Winter is set to embark on a short tour for the album kicking off in Baltimore on Thursday (April 17).
He’ll then head to the UK for a pair of intimate headline gigs at St Matthias Church in North London on April 24 and 25. The musician will follow this performance with a show at La Halles Aux Oliviers in Paris on April 29.
Tickets are on general sale now – you can buy yours here and view his tour dates here.
Cave meanwhile, recently extended his 2025 solo tour dates with a handful of new shows which continue in June.
