Sleep Token have scored their first-ever UK top 10 single with ‘Caramel’.

The masked metal band released the song earlier this month as the second preview of their highly-anticipated fourth album, ‘Even In Arcadia’, which is due to arrive on May 9 via RCA (pre-order/pre-save here).

Following on from the lead track ‘Emergence’, Sleep Token’s latest offering landed at Number 10 on the UK’s Official Singles Chart last Friday (April 11). It is currently placed behind Chappell Roan’s ‘The Giver’ (Number Nine) and in front of Alex Warren’s ‘Carry You Home’ (Number 11).

Speaking about Sleep Token entering the top 10, the Official Charts Company described the feat as “a watershed moment for one of the most exciting (and mysterious) rock acts in the country right now”.

‘Emergence’ previously peaked at Number 17 in the UK. This also marked their first-ever top 40 single on these shores.

Clocking in at just under five minutes long, ‘Caramel’ begins with a soft, soothing instrumental melody, before anonymous frontman Vessel starts to explore the theme of identity in the lyrics.

He sings: “Every time they try to shout my real name just to get a rise from me/ Acting like I’m never stressed out by the hearsay/ I guess that’s what I get for trying to hide in the limelight/Guess that’s what I get for having 20/20 hindsight/ Everybody wants eyes on ’em, I just wanna hear you sing that top line.

Sleep Token’s first UK Number One single comes as the band prepare to headline Download Festival 2025 alongside Green Day and Korn. In July, drummer II will appear at Black Sabbath’s final-ever show in Birmingham.

They’ll then head out on a North American headline tour in the autumn. Find any remaining tickets here.

Speaking about Sleep Token stepping up to top the bill at Download, festival boss Andy Copping told NME: “It was seeing their meteoric rise over the last two years that made me think, ‘This is a band that deserves to be elevated’.

“They’ve got a sold-out arena tour in a couple of weeks which we already know will be a sight to behold.”

He added: “I think it’s important for the festival to bring new bands through to headline. […] It feels like we’re the first major festival that’s taken the bull by the horns and gone, ‘OK, it’s time. It’s Sleep Token’s moment’. I know it’s going to be amazing for them, amazing for the festival and amazing for the fans.”

‘Even In Arcadia’ will follow on from 2023’s ‘Take Me Back To Eden’, which earned a glowing five-star review from NME. It read: “There are more risks on ‘Take Me Back To Eden’ than Sleep Token have ever taken before, but there’s never an opportunity to doubt whether anything they attempt will succeed.

“It’s an ambitious, emotional monolith of a record, with all the hallmarks of future classic status.”
