The Last Dinner Party‘s L.Mayland has announced their debut solo EP ‘The Slow Fire Of Sleep’ – listen to new single ‘Lighthouse’ below.

The musician – aka Lizzie Mayland – revealed earlier this week that they’d be sharing “the first-ever single from [their] first-ever solo project” today (Thursday April 17).

“I can’t wait for you all to hear it!!” Mayland wrote alongside a dreamy snippet of music. “I will tell all the details very soon…”

Now, the guitarist and singer has confirmed that they’ll be releasing their five-track debut EP ‘The Slow Fire Of Sleep’ on Friday May 9 (pre-order/pre-save here). To preview the forthcoming collection, Mayland has dropped their first solo song.

“‘Lighthouse’ is about being in a healthy romantic relationship for the first time in my life and the fear of losing that,” they explained.

The tender song arrives with some suitably ethereal visuals by frequent TLDP collaborator Cal McIntyre.

“I storyboarded an idea for the video, then I heard Cal wanted to direct it and I was so pleased,” Mayland added. “He captured the elements which were the most important to me before lending his own aesthetic talents.”

They began working on what would become ‘The Slow Fire Of Sleep’ “during the liminal space between tours” with The Last Dinner Party – “neither on the road nor spiritually reacclimatised to their day-to-day existence back home”.

Mayland went on: “These tracks definitely grew from those periods. Suddenly finding myself in my quiet flat and filling that silence with my guitar and these sad songs. It was a way to process what was happening in my life, to come back to myself.”

The new EP is set to showcase a more intimate side of the musician – who has cited the likes of Nick Drake, Brian Eno, Eva Cassidy and Adrianne Lenker as influences. They were also inspired by seminal film soundtracks such as Alex Turner’s Submarine EP and Oliver Coates’ Aftersun compositions.

For the title track and EP closer, Mayland looked at the “hopelessness regarding the world’s ongoing environmental crisis”. They said: “It was important to me that the end of the song didn’t feature my voice at all.

“I wanted an apocalyptic feeling, like a texture, that Will and Immy [producers Will Lister and Imogen Williams] captured perfectly.”

The rest of the EP sees Mayland explore their relationship with gender (‘Mother Mother’), reflect on moving from the country to the city (‘Homeward’) and maintaining their first healthy relationship while out on tour (‘Lighthouse’ and ‘From The Other Side Of The World I’d Hear You’).

“‘The Slow Fire Of Sleep’ marks a collection of tracks which sees their narrator exploring the spectrums of vulnerability, loneliness and introspection with a beguiling honesty,” a press release notes.

L.Mayland is set to showcase the EP with two intimate live shows in London and Manchester next month. Sign up for ticket information here, and see the list of dates below.

L.Mayland’s 2025 UK tour dates are:

09 – St Matthias Church, London
11 – The Castle Hotel, Manchester

The Last Dinner Party released their acclaimed debut album, ‘Prelude to Ecstasy’, in February 2024. The band scored the biggest Number One debut album in nearly a decade with the record, which also earned a Mercury Prize nomination.

Last month saw TLDP take home the Best New Artist award at the BRITs 2025 – where they also performed their debut single ‘Nothing Matters’. During their acceptance speech, they gave a shout-out to the UK’s grassroots music venues.

Speaking to NME on the red carpet, the group revealed that they were underway with working on their second album.

“Hopefully new music [is coming soon],” said frontwoman Abigail Morris. “We’re working on it at the moment and it feels really good to be creating again after touring again for so long.”

She continued: “We’re approaching the second album the same way we approached the first album, which is by doing what we want to do without any pressures or expectations. Obviously there is a little bit of anxiety about the sophomore thing, but we’re just sticking to what we want to do. It’s about doing what feels right for now.”

In other news, Morris has teamed up with BC Camplight on his recent single ‘Two Legged Dog’.
