Jack Black has performed a reggae parody of My Chemical Romance’s ‘Welcome To The Black Parade’ on Saturday Night Live – watch below.
The actor and musician was hosting the show last night (April 5) for the first time since December 2005, and was joined by musical guests Elton John and Brandi Carlile.
Early on in the show, Black appeared alongside cast members Kenan Thompson and Ego Nwodim in a sketch set in Jamaica, where they sang a song named ‘Goth Kid On Vacation’. Black appeared in a goth outfit eerily reminiscent of Gerard Way, singing lyrics to the tune of ‘Welcome To The Black Parade’.
He sang: “When I was a young boy / My parents took me down to Jamaica / For my high school spring break / They said, ‘Come to the pool’ but / I stayed in the room with my graphic novels / So I could masturbate.”

Elsewhere in the episode, John and Carlile performed ‘Little Richard’s Bible’ and ‘Who Believes In Angels’ from their collaborative album that was released on Friday (April 4). They were joined by Red Hot Chili Peppers drummer Chad Smith for the tracks.
The episode also made reference to Morgan Wallen’s abrupt walk-off from the show last week. In the cold open, James Austin Johnson’s Donald Trump character said, “Get me to God’s country, right? Remember that?”, in a call back to Wallen’s social media post after his walk-out.
Later in the show, during Colin Jost’s Weekend Update segment, the comedian said: “This was the worst week for the stock market since the summer of 2020. But you have to remember, back then the president was also Trump. Just in the past two days, investors have lost over $6 trillion. Money is leaving the stock market faster than Morgan Wallen at goodnight.”
Ahead of the episode, Black had said the prospect of returning to host SNL had been giving him “night terrors”. He was there promoting his new film A Minecraft Movie, which is in cinemas now.
Black recently shared his original song, ‘I Feel Alive’, from the film’s soundtrack. WaterTower Music, part of the Warner Bros. movie studio, released an official lyric video for the uplifting new rock song on YouTube on March 20. You can watch it here.
