Liam Gallagher has responded to reports that Oasis have dropped ‘Hello’ from their upcoming reunion tour setlist.
It was recently reported that Oasis axed the song from their setlist over lyrics that referenced convicted pedophile Gary Glitter.
‘Hello’, which serves as the opening track for their 1995 classic ‘What’s The Story (Morning Glory)’, features the words: “Hello, hello, it’s good to be back, it’s good to be back”. The lyrics and melody mirror Glitter’s own 1973 hit ‘Hello, Hello, I’m Back Again’. Glitter is also credited as a writer on the song alongside writing partner Mike Leadner.
A source told The Sun on Sunday (via The Evening Standard): “The lyrics of the song would obviously have been a good fit for the reunion tour but the band have decided to leave it in the past. It would be inappropriate to play it given its connotations to Glitter and his convictions.”
Now, Gallagher has taken to X/Twitter to address the reports. When asked by a fan whether the report was true, Gallagher responded: “We’ll be playing HELLO trust me”.
Liam Gallagher has spent the last few days debunking reunion tour myths, including reports of a “leaked” tour setlist.
When sent the list by a fan, the singer responded on X and confirmed that while it isn’t the official setlist the band have drafted up, “it’s not far off”. Liam also revealed that “none” of his own solo songs would make the cut.
Alongside his brother Noel, Oasis’ long-awaited reunion tour will arrive at a number of huge stadiums in the UK and Ireland later this year, as well as a world tour with dates in North America, South America, Australia, South Korea and Japan.
The announcement sparked ensuing chaos when trying to snag tickets, including four-hour queues, thousands of tickets cancelled by Ticketmaster and more. In response, Noel said of the chaos: “I thought it’d be a big deal, but I was a bit taken aback by just how much of a big deal it was.”
So far, sources have told NME that Andy Bell, Gem Archer, Paul “Bonehead” Arthurs and Joey Waronker will join the brothers on tour.
Elsewhere, Oasis have crashed back to top of the charts with their ‘Some Might Say’ re-release.
