The 1997 Bentley Turbo R, once owned by Noel Gallagher, is now for sale on Autotrader for over £1million. Check out the details below.
The classic car appeared in a new listing on the site, and comes with an Oasis-inspired number plate reading ‘OASI5 2’. It is going for an asking price of £1.2million and has six previous owners – the most notable being the Britpop icon.
“This stunning Bentley was previously owned by the famous Noel Gallagher from the legendary Band Oasis,” reads the listing.
“The car is in excellent condition with a superb interior and is surprisingly reliable although rarely driven. Comes with private registration marking the second coming reunion of this once-in-a-century band,” it added, before describing the sale as a “chance to invest in the lead singer and songwriter’s once pride and joy”.
Erin Baker, Editorial Director at Autotrader shared: “Cars listed by music legends don’t come around very often, and Noel Gallagher’s Bentley Turbo R is certainly one for the Autotrader history books. With over 80million visits to Autotrader every month, we expect this rock ‘n’ roll ride to strike a chord with music lovers and car collectors alike.”
While the car was once owned by Gallagher, it’s worth noting that it was likely never driven by the musician as he never obtained a driving license – giving up on the idea in the mid-’90s, while Oasis were at the peak of their fame.
Speaking on Radio 2 in 2023, the High Flying Birds founder recalled how he gave up the prospect of driving due to the number of Oasis fans that would gather around during his lessons.
“I’m in a red Nissan Micra with a massive great big triangle on the top of it with an ‘L’, with all these kids coming out”, he said (via Evening Standard). “This is at the height of Oasis mania. I was like, ‘Never, never again am I getting in a car’.”
Despite calling it quits when it came to getting a license, Gallagher has gone on to own a number of expensive cars over the years.
One of the most famous was a brown Rolls-Royce that was bought by him by record label owner and music industry executive Alan McGee – who helped launch Oasis to stardom. Speaking as part of a documentary in 2010, the label boss recalled how he nearly backed out of the idea and kept the car for himself.
“I’m always seen as having made a grand, selfless gesture giving Noel that chocolate brown Rolls-Royce as a gift,” he said in the Upside Down documentary, which explored the story of his record label, Creation. “What people don’t know is that five minutes before I gave him the car I was sat in it, thinking how nice it was and going, ‘Why the fuck am I giving this away?’ I nearly kept it for myself.”
The Oasis co-founder also owned a Mark 2 Jaguar that he reportedly only drove nine miles in five years and, more recently, was issued a six-month driving ban despite still not having a license. The fines were in regard to the £120,000 chauffeur-driven Range Rover he uses to commute, which racked up a number of speeding tickets.
Appearing at Lavender Hill magistrates court in 2023, Gallagher was handed a six-month driving ban and ordered to pay £1340 in fines, £110 prosecution costs, and a £536 court fee.
In a letter to the court, he said he was unaware of the penalties as they were not “brought to my attention by my staff”, and his driver cited the postal strikes as the reason for the lack of response.
The sale of Gallagher’s former Bentley comes as Oasis are set to play their first gigs together in 16 years this summer, kicking off with a run of UK and Ireland dates featuring support from Richard Ashcroft and Cast.
Earlier this year, sources close to the shows revealed details exclusively to NME about who will join Liam and Noel for the shows. Guitarists Gem Archer and Paul ‘Bonehead’ Arthurs were said to be on board, as well as drummer Joe Waronker – believed to be one of the “new faces” that Liam teased.
Bassist Andy Bell also confirmed he would be returning to the line-up earlier this year, and was recently pictured entering a London studio alongside Noel, Bonehead and Archer. While Liam was not in attendance, they were joined by keyboardist Mikey Rowe, who played with the band in the ’90s and also worked with Noel in High Flying Birds.
In the run-up to the dates, the band have partnered with Amazon to launch new merch that pays homage to the iconic moments throughout their career.
