Bring Me The Horizon performed their cover of the Oasis classic ‘Wonderwall’ for the first time at a show in Cologne – check it out below.
The band shared their unexpected cover in January as part of the Spotify Singles series, earning the approval of Liam Gallagher himself – telling fans “I fucking LOVE it” and hailing it as “absolutely incredible”. The band even recreated the video, with four band members sitting in a straight line while bassist Matt Kean sits on their left reading a newspaper. They donated all profits from the track will be donated to the Teenage Cancer Trust.
BMTH are currently in Germany ahead of their performances at Rock Am Ring and Rock Im Park this weekend. They warmed up for those shows with a show at Cologne’s Palladium and ‘Wonderwall’ ended up making the setlist.
“I’m quite excited to play this,” frontman Oli Sykes said to introduce the track. “This is going to be the first time we’ve ever played it in front of a live audience. Be kind to us. If you know the words, sing as loud as you can and help us out. Ready to have some fun?”
The crowd duly obliged as the band put their metallic spin on the classic Oasis hit – check it out below.
The Sheffield rock pioneers caught up with NME while on the red carpet for the BRITs 2025, and opened up about the cover.
“It’s a good song, it’s actually one of my favourites. Top five,” Sykes explained. “We always usually cover stuff that no one has ever heard of, so we were like ‘Now let’s try to reimagine something that everyone knows. Make it easy for ourselves’. It came out alright I think! It was crazy that Liam didn’t slag it off to the high heavens…”
Drummer Mat Nicholls continued: “[We grew up] listening to them, definitely. It’s hard to ignore them, especially being our age, because Oasis are a British staple.
“We were expecting [Liam] to absolutely rinse us, but he said some actually nice things! It was cool and I think it went down as good as we wished it could.”
Bring Me The Horizon are set to headline Reading & Leeds 2025, and Sykes told NME last December that they have “a few more songs” ready for the shows. That followed previous teases that there are songs as part of ‘Nex Gen: Director’s Cut’ that he would like to release.
The band have also announced a North American arena tour for autumn 2025 – see all the dates here – and they will also appear at Louder Than Life festival in the US in September.
In other news, Sykes and his wife Alissic recently announced that they are expecting twins.
The couple also shared a gender reveal video in which they found out by eating cupcakes that they were having a boy and a girl.
