Chappell Roan will induct Cyndi Lauper into the Rock & Roll Hall Of Fame and perform live at the event, it has been announced.
Lauper, who played the final show of her farewell tour this summer, will receive the prestigious honour during a ceremony in Los Angeles, California, next Saturday (November 8).
The pop icon is set to be inducted into the 2025 Rock Hall along with the likes of The White Stripes, OutKast, Soundgarden, Joe Cocker and Bad Company.
“I’m so excited to be inducting Cyndi Lauper into the Rock & Roll Hall Of Fame on November 8,” said Roan in a video message. “She has inspired me with her fashion, her hair, of course her makeup, her music.
“I actually auditioned with ‘True Colors’ for America’s Got Talent when I was 13. I didn’t make it, but the song is still incredible. I’m so excited, thank you for having me.” Watch the video below.
Lauper has also expressed her mutual love for the ‘Good Luck, Babe!’ pop star. In the documentary Let The Canary Sing, the ‘Time After Time’ artist recalled hearing Roan’s hit ‘Pink Pony Club’ for the first time.
“Such dusky, yearning keyboard pop,” Lauper said (via Consequence). “Wow, born in 1998, she’s even younger than my son! And that hair! That kind of reminds me of what I did on the blues record, ‘Memphis Blues’ [2010]… just incredible!”
Additionally, it has been confirmed that Roan will perform live at next week’s Rock & Roll Hall Of Fame ceremony. Other acts taking to the stage include The Killers, En Vogue, Bryan Adams and Aerosmith‘s Joe Perry.
Responding to the news she would be inducted into the Rock Hall this year, Lauper wrote: “I’m humbled to be in the company of so many of my heroes – Aretha, Tina, Chaka, Joni, Wanda, to name just a few.
“Women have made so many important contributions to music and to rock n roll and a win for one of us is a win for all of us.”
She added: “Thank you to the voting members of the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame for this honour. And thank you to my fans for supporting me throughout my career. I could not do any of this without you.”
In other news, Roan has launched the ‘Midwest Princess Project’ to support trans youth and LGBTQ+ communities.
Elsewhere, she explained that she had “no idea” what her “next era” of music would sound like. Roan had previously admitted that her second album could “take at least five years to write”, and said the project “doesn’t exist yet”.
