Ahead of Foo Fighters heading out on tour with Queens Of The Stone Age, Dave Grohl has opened up about the “lifelong bond” he has with Josh Homme.

Foos shared details of their forthcoming North American stadium tour yesterday (Thursday October 23), confirming it will be taking place in 2026 and sharing a brand new single called ‘Asking For A Friend’.

Both new announcements came as the band had been hinting that they were “about to take flight” into their next era, and gearing up to share the follow-up to this summer’s stand-alone single, ‘Today’s Song’.

In the announcement, frontman Dave Grohl confirmed that Queens Of The Stone Age would be opening for them on all but one date, and shared why he thought it was a perfect fit.

“What better way to share the view than with close friends,” he began. “In 1992 I first saw the legendary Kyuss perform at the Off Ramp in Seattle and met Mr. Josh Homme. The band were friends of a friend, and before long their album Blues for the Red Sun became the soundtrack to that summer. 33 years later and with many miles behind us, I have shared some of my life’s most rewarding musical moments with my dear friend, Josh.

“A lifelong bond that goes far beyond the sound we’ve made together. So it is with great happiness that we can share this next chapter together with his almighty Queens of the Stone Age. Take cover.”

Both Homme and Grohl have had a long collaborative relationship, with Grohl previously stepping in for drummer duties in QOTSA – including working with Homme on classic QOTSA album ‘Songs For The Deaf’.

The two of them also joined forces with Led Zeppelin‘s John Paul Jones to form the hard-rock supergroup, Them Crooked Vultures, who released their eponymous debut album in 2009.

Speaking to NME back in 2023, Homme discussed their longtime friendship, and added that the two continued to bond over their experiences of loss. “Dave has been one of the longest romances I’ve had that’s worked. He’s such a good guy, but I also love his dark side,” the singer shared. “I love mixing our watercolours together like that, just in conversation. We go to this place, that I won’t name, just to eat breakfast and waffles and talk about times.”

The following spring, the former Nirvana star jokingly performed a song he wrote about Homme during a solo appearance at a benefit show, expressing “how much I fucking love you, man”, and in 2018 he said that working together with the QOTSA frontman always felt like “two old friends that have had too much to drink”.

Back in 2021, Grohl also shared what it was like to be in Them Crooked Vultures with Homme and Jones, saying that “it was incredibly inspiring, a really incredible time”, and something he hopes that “someday we do it again.”

Before then, Homme also spoke of his hope for the band’s reformation in 2019, admitting that there is “always something cooking”.

Queens Of The Stone Age don’t just have the shows with Foo Fighters on their itinerary. Earlier this month the band began their ‘Catacombs’ tour in the US, which sees them recapture the sombre sound of their stripped-back performance at the historic Parisian Catacombs last summer, which was captured for a recent concert film and live album.

During some of the shows, the band surprised the crowd by playing rarities, premiering a new track called ‘Easy Street’, and breaking out a cover of ‘Spinning In Daffodils’ by Them Crooked Vultures.

In addition to their current dates across North America, Queens Of The Stone Age have also brought their shows to UK and Europe this month – and will be playing a show at London’s Royal Albert Hall next week. Find any remaining tickets here.

Tickets for all shows on the Foo Fighters and Queens Of The Stone Age tour go on general sale at 10am local time next Friday (October 31) – you’ll be able to buy yours here.
