David Harbour has spoken out amid controversies involving his ex-wife Lily Allen and Stranger Things co-star Millie Bobby Brown.
Allen’s “vulnerable” new album ‘West End Girl’ was recorded in just 10 days following the breakdown of her marriage to actor Harbour, who allegedly cheated on her. Since releasing the LP, the singer has insisted it is “not a cruel album” and said she wasn’t seeking “revenge”.
The contents of the record have made headlines, with Allen having opened up about what had led to the couple’s split on the project. But according to the pop star, the “story” of ‘West End Girl’ is “a mixture of fact and fiction”.
Additionally, Stranger Things star Brown – who portrays Eleven in the hit Netflix series – has reportedly accused Harbour of “harassment and bullying” on set.
She is said to have filed a claim against her on-screen adopted father before the new episodes for the forthcoming final season were filmed. It is reported that Harbour faced an internal inquiry following Brown’s complaints, though there were no claims of sexual impropriety.
Now, during an interview with Esquire Spain, Harbour has broken his silence after being asked whether there was anything he would change about his life, now that he is 50 years old.

“That’s such a hard question – the question of regret, or something,” he replied. I would change either everything or nothing.”
Harbour continued: “You either accept your path completely and realise that even the pain and the slip-ups and the mistakes are all part of the journey, and that there’s truth and growth, wisdom and deeper empathy and connection in all that. It’s kind of like a house of cards, the minute you try to change one thing, you kind of have to change it all.”
He went on to reflect on his career, explaining: “It’s about incorporating your life into something that you can give to other people so that they can have a cathartic response to their lives.
“If you’ve never been through anything, what do you really have to offer? If I were to change anything, I’d change everything, and just make my life happy and silly and like, whatever, and then I wouldn’t be an artist anymore. And that would suck.”

When asked what he hoped to achieve in the second half of his life, Harbour responded: “It’s like I’m chasing a dragon of that perfect story. It’s like a real hit for me.” He later added: The next 50 years will be full of more stories that are complex and rich and make you feel all the feelings and lift you up and make you wait rapidly for the next episode. That’s really going to be the focus for me.
The actor concluded: “Then of course there’s personal stuff that I want to do, and people that I want to love, and be good to and nurture, things like that.”
Harbour and Allen began dating in 2019 after meeting on the celebrity dating app Raya, and tied the knot in an intimate Las Vegas ceremony in 2020.
Reports of the couple’s split emerged at the start of this year, amid rumours that Harbour had cheated. Later, Allen revealed that she went into a treatment centre to deal with the “emotional turmoil” of the break-up.
‘West End Girl’ delves into Allen’s “deep-rooted issues with rejection and abandonment” in the wake of her divorce. Meanwhile, a woman who is said to have inspired her new song ‘Madeline’ has come forward following her affair with Harbour. However, Allen revealed in an interview with The Sunday Times that ‘Madeline’ was a fictional character who was a “construct of others”.
Allen recently appeared to take a swipe at her ex by wearing a ‘Madeline’ fancy dress costume for Halloween. In other news, the NYC townhouse owned by Allen and Harbour was listed for sale just days after the release of her new album.
The singer is set to showcase ‘West End Girl’ on a UK tour early next year, marking her first live gigs in seven years. Find ticket details here.
In a four-star review, NME described ‘West End Girl’ as “a sleek, smart collection that sees Allen back at her very best”. It hailed the singer’s “pop hooks and brutal honesty”, and called the LP “a slow-burn break-up album with Allen taking heavy inspiration from her own life”.
Allen has also revealed how the album was inspired by The Streets’ ‘A Grand Don’t Come For Free’.
Meanwhile, the first part of Stranger Things‘ fifth and final season will arrive on November 27, with the second arriving on Boxing Day (December 26). The finale is due to land on New Year’s Day (January 1).
