Resident Evil has confirmed that as part of its 30th anniversary celebrations next year, it will be teaming up with Babymetal for some crossover merch.
The first Resident Evil game was released in 1996 and is credited with reviving the zombie genre and defining survival horror video games. That original game went on to rack up more than 5million sales worldwide and spawned a number of sequels, spin-offs and adaptations.
Publishers Capcom launched an official 30th anniversary website earlier this year to celebrate the history of Resident Evil and a special showcase has been confirmed for “early next year” where more details about the upcoming Resident Evil Requiem will be revealed alongside other news.
Over the weekend, Capcom also revived Resident Evil Village’s baddie Alcina Dimitrescu aka Lady Di to announce a special collaboration with Babymetal.
“Oh, I wasn’t expecting so many of you. This is an impressive venue, more modern than my castle. I am here to give you some very special news,” said the fan-favourite character in the clip. “It’s almost Resident Evil’s 30th anniversary and to celebrate, Resident Evil and Babymetal will be releasing collaborative goods. You can get your grubby little hands on some Resident Evil and Babymetal merchandise. That’s all for now, she continued before taking on Babymetal’s signature sign-off of “see you.”

The crossover merch will launch at some point in 2026.
“As a fan of both Babymetal and Resident Evil, this is really weird, but I’m all for it. I have no idea what this entails and I can’t imagine it mentally either. I am all for brands taking interesting risks in collaboration though, so I’ll check this out,” wrote one fan on Reddit. “Yeah, this was unexpected,” added another. “It was not on my bingo card but I started screaming of excitement and joy and this was a collab that was not expected but definitely welcomed,” said a third.
Other fans are speculating that the video also teases a return for Alcina Dimitrescu. “All the Lady Di related advertisements makes me think Capcom regrets killing her character or wants her to come back in some way,” explained one fan.
It’s also been confirmed that modern horror icon Zach Cregger is currently working on a “faithful” Resident Evil adaptation. “It’s gonna be not at all like Barbarian and Weapons. It’s going to be a rock ’em, sock ’em [movie]. It’s for me to play and turn my brain off and just get crazy with the camera,” the longtime video game fan explained. “It’s not reinventing itself. This movie follows a person from point A to point B. It’s weird in that way, because it’s a real-time foot journey where you just go deeper and deeper into the depths of Hell. And it’s really a love letter to the games, because I love those games. This is my homage to them.”
In other news, the upcoming Call Of Duty live-action adaptation has got its writer and director but fans are already worried about an “uninspiring” film.
