Slipknot’s Clown has launched his own surreal Minecraft world Vernearth that features an evolving story alongside a number of different game modes.

Back in 2022, Slipknot teamed up with The Sandbox to launch Knotverse,“a fully immersive space to host Web3 experiences.” Now the band’s co-founder and percussionist Shawn ‘Clown’ Crahan has unveiled his own Minecraft experience.

“From the mind of Shawn ‘Clown’ Crahan comes an original Minecraft realm: Vernearth. More than a typical Minecraft server, Vernearth presents a surreal landscape built from over 100 million blocks,” reads a description.

“Its shifting terrain is home to mysterious guardians known as Mind Stewards, along with hidden paths and secrets to uncover.”

The experience has been created using “custom technology” and handcrafted environments. Players will be able access four different game modes – ‘Oblivion’, ‘The Arena’, ‘Plotworld’ and ‘Challenge’ – that form a “unified ecosystem that supports every type of player.”

Oblivion is a “vast, custom-generated survival world that blends realism with corrupted Clown-inspired elements,” while The Arena is a multiplayer fighting area that’s been designed for “fast, high-intensity competition.”

Plotworld provides a “safe, collaborative creative space where players can build freely, merge plots, host social activities, and enter monthly build contests,” and Challenge Mode is a seasonal hardcore game that resets every 45 days with a new Slipknot theme. “Explorers and builders to streamers, competitors, and high-stakes achievers will all have something innovative to experience in Vernearth,” promises a press release.

“We’re in an era where technology means absolutely anything is possible,” Clown said around the launch of the Knotverse. “With the metaverse, I can come up with any concept and utilise it perfectly in a digital world.”

“There’s a lot of new words floating around, but they’re just reflections of old words. It sounds scary to say you want to release an album through the metaverse, but really, that just means streaming something on the internet. Don’t be scared of this new technology. You have to go with change. Otherwise, you get left behind, and I don’t want that for our family,” he added.

Speaking to NME last year, Clown said: “I think the future is very bright [for Slipknot]. In the past, I’ve been anxious for the future, but now I’m content. I’m fine with just letting everything unravel and then winding it up to see where it goes.”

Earlier this year, the band’s new drummer Eloy Casagrande confirmed Slipknot were working on new music.

In other news, Metroid Prime 4: Beyond is finally out but fans are furious that some music is only available if you buy a $20 plastic statue.
