Ariana Grande and Selena Gomez have offered their fans comfort following Donald Trump being re-elected as the President of the United States.

Following the news of Trump’s election win on Wednesday (November 6), numerous musicians, actors and prominent figures in the entertainment industry have shared their reactions online.

Among two of the high-profile celebrities to do so are singer-actors Ariana Grande and Selena Gomez. In a now-expired Instagram story – which has been captured and shared on X (formerly Twitter), Ariana Grande wrote: “holding the hand of every person who is feeling the immeasurable heaviness of this outcome today”.

Selena Gomez – who has for several years been vocal about her dislike for Trump – also wrote in an Instagram story: “My heart is heavy today.” Her caption was written beneath a quote from American writer and civil rights activist Audre Lorde that reads “I am not free while any woman is unfree, even when her shackles are very different from my own.”

Both singer-actors’ comments are seemingly targetted at Trump’s stance on women’s rights. Unlike Kamala Harris – whose been an outspoken leader and advocate for reproductive freedom – Trump celebrated the overturning of Roe v Wade which ended the constitutional right to abortion and allowed states to completely ban or severely restrict abortion access.

Billie Eilish has been another musician to criticise Trump’s stance. Ahead of the elections, she posted on social media urging her fans to vote for Harris: “It’s a war on women.” After Trump’s win, Eilish was visibly emotional while performing at a concert and dedicated ‘Your Power’ to her female fans: “Someone who hates women so, so deeply is about to be the President. This song is for all the women out there. I love you, I support you.”

Elsewhere, the entertainment world has been reacting to the news since Donald Trump declared victory yesterday (November 6). Riverdale star Lili Reinhart said: “I cannot fathom the feeling of the women who came forward about their sexual assault at the hands of Trump. Seeing millions of people vote for their abuser. My heart absolutely breaks for these women. I believe you, and I am so sorry.”

Jack White has since shared a blistering social media post, in which he lambasted Trump and made a point to highlight several groups who will be affected by the convicted felon’s presidency: “Americans chose a known, obvious fascist and now America will get whatever this wannabe dictator wants to enact from here on in… Immigrants? He wants you out. Minorities? He doesn’t care about you at ALL. Women? You know exactly what he thinks of you. Dying on the stretcher from a miscarriage of your rapist’s pregnancy?”
