Sophie Ellis-Bextor is set to perform a special New Year’s Eve show on the BBC next month. Find all the details below.

The ‘Murder On The Dancefloor’ pop star will host her New Year’s Eve Disco concert on Tuesday December 31, where she will bring in 2025 with a headline set on BBC One and iPlayer.

Created by BBC Studios Entertainment Productions, the TV event will see Ellis-Bextor being joined on stage by some yet-to-be-announced “very special guests”.

“I always love a party, and I immediately think of sparkles, singing and dancing for a New Year’s Eve celebration and that’s what I’ll be bringing with me for my BBC One performance this New Year!” the singer said in a statement.

“The band and I can’t wait, and we have some special surprises planned. I’m so honoured to have been asked to bid a fond farewell to 2024 with you all, and to welcome in an exciting 2025 together. Get your disco shoes ready! I’ll be wearing mine…”

Per a press release, the forthcoming NYE show will feature “hits”, “some surprise numbers” and “all-star guests”. It continued: “The festivities will continue after BBC One goes live to London for the traditional epic fireworks display.”

Filming is scheduled to take place at Riverside Studios in Hammersmith, London on Tuesday December 17. Fans can apply to be in the audience by entering a random draw – you can do so here.

Jonathan Rothery, Head of Popular Music TV at the BBC, added: “BBC Music and BBC One have a long-standing tradition of bringing the biggest stars in pop to audiences on New Year’s Eve. We’re thrilled that Sophie Ellis-Bextor, joined by some surprise guests, will be taking us into 2025, rounding off her already hugely successful year.”

Alison Howe, Executive Producer, Entertainment and Music, BBC Studios, said: “Dust off your glitter balls and dancing shoes, Sophie is set to light up the dance floor with her feelgood anthems as we welcome in the New Year.”

Last year saw Rick Astley bring in 2024 with a live performance from the Roundhouse in Camden Town, London as part of the BBC’s New Year’s Eve coverage. Previous NYE acts on the Beeb include Sam Ryder, Years & Years, Alicia Keys, Craig David, Robbie Williams and Nile Rodgers & Chic.

In other news, Ellis-Bextor recently released a new single called ‘Freedom Of The Night’ and announced a UK headline tour for next year. Find any remaining tickets here.

Back in April, ‘Murder On The Dancefloor’ came in at Number Three on a list of the UK’s biggest songs of 2024 so far.

The 2001 track enjoyed a huge spike in popularity after it soundtracked a now-infamous nude scene in Emerald Fennell’s 2023 film Saltburn. ‘Murder…’ matched its original Number Two chart placing in January, and spent five non-consecutive weeks in that spot.

Speaking to NME at the beginning of 2024, Ellis-Bextor said she had “nothing at all” in terms of awareness or success in America until Saltburn. “That’s what’s been quite extraordinary,” she explained. “To them it’s a new song, and that’s bonkers.

“It didn’t do anything there the first time around, and I’m fine with that. If I’ve learned anything along the way it’s that you’ve got to go where the momentum is.”

She continued: “The glamour of being big in America would have meant a lot of time away, and I’d rather go where there are already things happening. I had an absolute ball with the first record in Latin America, South East Asia and all these places – but if this ends up being something that takes me there now then let’s see what happens.”

The star later made her US TV debut on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon before embarking on a 2024 North American headline tour.

Meanwhile, Sophie Ellis-Bextor has been announced for Kendal Calling 2025.
