Ghost announce new comic book series, co-written by frontman

Ghost have announced a new comic book series, which is co-written by frontman Tobias Forge – find out more below.

The Swedish metal band took to social media over the weekend to announced the Sister Imperator series by Dark Horse Comics. The four-part mini-series will tell the origin story of Sister Imperator, the fictional character who served as “the revered representative of the Clergy and behind the scenes overseer of Ghost’s dark machinations”.

The first issue of Sister Imperator is scheduled for release on March 5. Release dates for the three remaining issues have not been announced. More details are available at the Dark Horse Comics website.

Besides frontman Tobias Forge, the series is co-written by Corinna Bechko (Avatar: Adapt or Die), along with artist Puste (The Batman & Scooby-Doo Mysteries), colourist Thiago Rocha (Kill All Immortals) and cover art by Mikael Eriksson.

The comic series is the latest entry in the band’s fictional years-long narrative following their first concert film Rite Here Rite Now, which was directed by Forge and filmmaker Alex Ross Perry. Speaking to NME about the project this summer, Perry explained: “Ghost as a band is like a planet and the story is like the moon. The moon is not part of the planet, but it orbits the planet.

“The songs and the meanings are thematically connected to what Ghost are pursuing, but they’re not creating a rock opera about these family dynamics of mothers, sons and fathers. I think for fans, it’s like getting two meals instead of one.”

In a four-star review of Rite Here Right Now, NME wrote: “If you’re a casual fan, Rite Here Rite Now makes for a fun, enjoyable experience that should tide you over until their next album or tour. But if you’re a die-hard, this is essential viewing – not just for its exhilarating live moments, but for the next part of the gripping Ghost saga.”
