Linkin Park debut at Number One in 10 countries with ‘From Zero’

Linkin Park’s comeback album ‘From Zero’ has debuted at the top of the charts in 10 countries.

After it’s arrival earlier this month, the album marked the band’s first since the passing of frontman Chester Bennington and features Emily Armstrong as the new vocalist.

Ahead of its release, the band shared a handful of singles – including ‘Heavy Is The Crown’, ‘The Emptiness Machine’, ‘Over Each Other’ and ‘Casualty’ – and embarked on a number of live shows to promote the new material.

While Mike Shinoda opened up about the “culture” of the new Linkin Park line-up, saying it felt like the “best we’ve had”, fans were divided over the replacement of Bennington and Shinoda went on to clarify the move was “not about erasing the past”.

The band have now gone on to top the charts in 10 countries with the record.

It officially reached the Number One spot on the UK albums charts upon its release, as well as taking pole position in Germany, France, Italy, Holland, Switzerland, Austria, Belgium, Australia and New Zealand.

In the US, it came just shy of the milestone – debuting at Number Two. It lost out on the chart-topping position to K-pop group Ateez, who took the win with their ‘Golden Hour: Part.2’ album, which was released on the same day.

As well as a win for the band as a whole, the accomplishment also came as a big accolade for new vocalist Emily Armstrong. This is because it marks her first chart-topping album to date.

“That’s so insane, thank you so much,” the singer said in a clip with Shinoda after securing the top spot on the UK charts. “Thank you so fucking much. This is so surreal… It’s my first Number One so I’m freaking out obviously.”

Shinoda added: “I don’t know what our last Number One was, but it was a very long time ago. This is very cool. It’s a big deal to all of us.”

‘From Zero’ was given a three-star review by NME, who described the record as having “an intriguing mix of sensational, knockout stadium rock and some perplexingly tired songwriting”.

“Crucially, ‘From Zero’ must be viewed as a reset, exemplified by its title which pays homage to the band’s former name: Xero. Therefore, any inevitable comparisons to their largely masterful discography must bear in mind the place from which ‘From Zero’ was born: an organic desire from Brad Delson, Dave Farrell, Joe Hahn and Shinoda to create together as Linkin Park once more,” it read.

“The global rock scene is surely a better place when Linkin Park are in it, and the elite moments on ‘From Zero’ – despite its shortcomings – confirm why.”
