The ‘Birds Of A Feather’ singer and her brother and collaborator appeared as the latest guests on the digital series Celebrity Substitute where they stopped by Garvanza Elementary School in Los Angeles to create a hit song titled ‘I’m Just A Polar Bear’ with a group of first grade students.
Upon arriving at the classroom, Eilish and Finneas were treated with cheers and excitement with one student saying: “Am I dreaming right now?” while another noted that she had seen the singer on TV when she was sporting red hair.
From there, Finneas played a couple of different chords on a piano to begin the process of creating their song. Eventually, the class and the two Grammy-award winning artists created ‘I’m Just A Polar Bear’, a song about a lonely polar bear. The song features lyrics: “I’m just a polar bear / but nobody cares and it’s just not fair” in the chorus, but luckily throughout the song, the polar bear makes a friend.
Finneas also took the time to explain to the students what a slant rhyme is after one of the kids’ suggestions lead to the creation of the lyric: “But I made a friend with a snowman/And it’s not the end, I’m on the mend.”
“Kids are so deep and relentless,” Eilish told host and Recess Therapy creator Julian Shapiro-Barnum. She also gave advice to future guests of the series, sharing: “Let the kids do their thing, I guess.”
“Kids, no matter how young, have cool, advanced taste in art,” Finneas shared. “That’s been my takeaway. With Billie’s first album, there’s no swear words on the whole album. I’m kind of proud of that because, to me, you could be five years old and love that album.”
Eilish is currently on her ‘Hit Me Hard And Soft’ tour which is in support of her third album of the same name.
In a four-star review of the LP, NME shared: “Billie came into this process with aspirations to find herself, creatively and personally: ‘Hit Me Hard and Soft’ remains distinctly unique, a portrait of a singular talent entering young adulthood, exploring her queerness and experiencing the emotional thrill and (sometimes) catastrophe of chasing passion or falling in love. In trying to write an album for herself, she’s made one that will resonate harder than anything she’s done before.”
The Stylistics have announced their first new album in nearly two decades, with Shania Twain and The Darkness’ Justin Hawkins set to feature. The legendary Philly soul group were a perennial presence in the album and singles charts in the 1970s, with classic hits including ‘You Make Me Feel Brand […]
