Morcheeba have celebrated 30 years since their formation by sharing the reflective new single ‘Call For Love’. Check it out below.
Shared today (January 21), the new track marks the first single to be shared from the tri-hop duo in four years, when they dropped ‘Blackest Blue’ in 2021.
Produced by the band’s own Ross Godfrey, the new release showcases a hazy, laid-back atmosphere and captures the same essence that first put the duo on the map. “Now I know how you know/ My every dumb mistake/ I’ll admit I delayed/ The lightbulb coming on/The light showed up my dark side,” sings Skye Edwards, alongside hypnotic, reverb-drenched instrumentals.
“We’ll put out a call for love tonight/ To a share this blessed life/ And then you’ll believe that/ You’re adored/ We’ll set our world alight”.
Speaking about the inspiration for the single, Godfrey said: “’Call For Love’ is very grounding, musically and emotionally. The world is so confusing and complicated right now.”
Skye continued: “An apocalypse is always on the horizon, both personal and global. It is comforting to take refuge in music and love with those close to us. When it came to writing lyrics for this song, I thought to myself ’ What would I like to hear from a certain someone, if and when they were ready to say sorry? As it turned out, it was also what I needed to say to them”.
The song comes as Morcheeba’s first of the new year, and celebrates three decades since the band formed. Coming together in London back in 1995, the duo have gone on to tour globally, sell over 10million albums and release fan-favourites like 1996’s debut ‘Who Can You Trust?’ and 1998’s ‘Big Calm’.
The band have also gone on to produce an album for Talking Heads’ David Byrne and create soundtracks for Oscar-winning director Steven Soderbergh.
According to a new press release, the single isn’t a standalone track, but instead serves as the first taste of a new album which is expected to arrive later this year.
Last year, the band were named among the line-up for Chaka Khan’s Meltdown Festival, alongside Lady Blackbird, Mica Paris and Incognito.
