A new, never-before-heard Tina Turner single has been released – listen to ‘Hot For You Baby’ below.
The song was premiered on the BBC Radio 2 Breakfast Show this morning (January 23). Recorded at Capitol Studios in Hollywood, it was originally intended to be an album track on Turner’s fifth record ‘Private Dancer’ (1984).
‘Hot For You Baby’ was believed to be lost, but the recent unearthing of the tune “introduces a fresh chapter in the ‘Private Dancer’ story”, per a press release.
Written by Australian musicians George Young and Harry Vanda, and produced by John Carter, the new song will appear on a 40th anniversary edition of Turner’s Grammy-winning breakthrough LP.
‘Private Dancer (40th Anniversary Edition)’ is due for release on March 21. A description notes that the collection boasts “a stunning array of previously unreleased tracks, live performances, and footage, honouring the legacy of an artist whose music transformed the world”.
Fans will be able to own the expanded album on 5CD/Blu-ray, 2CD, 1LP pearl vinyl, and 1LP picture disc. You can pre-order it here, and listen to ‘Hot For You Baby’ here:
The centrepiece of the upcoming release is the 5CD/Blu-ray set, which includes the newly upgraded 55-minute Private Dancer Tour show, filmed at the NEC in Birmingham over two nights in March 1985.
Directed by David Mallet, the movie features performances with David Bowie and Bryan Adams from Turner’s landmark concert. The film has been “meticulously restored by Mallet, offering a front-row experience of Turner at her electrifying best”.
The set also contains five upgraded music videos, with ‘Private Dancer’ fully restored to HD from its original 35mm film.
‘Private Dancer’ peaked at Number One on the Billboard 200 in the US, and Number Two on the UK albums chart. The 5x platinum record earned Turner four Grammys: Best Female Rock Vocal Performance (‘Better Be Good To Me’), Best Female Pop Vocal Performance, Record Of The Year, and Song Of The Year (‘What’s Love Got To Do With It?’).

Tina Turner died in May 2023 following a long illness. She was 83 years old. The likes of Elton John, Mick Jagger, Ronnie Wood, Debbie Harry, Karen O, Beyoncé and Mariah Carey shared tributes to the legendary singer online.
In early 2024, the late icon was honoured at the Grammys with a tribute featuring Oprah Winfrey and The Colour Purple’s Fantasia Barrino. “She is our forever goddess of rock ‘n’ roll, who inspired millions, a moving symbol of grace and grit, soul and power,” said Winfrey.
