The Charlatans will be taking part in Record Store Day 2025 – sharing a vinyl picture disc of ‘The Only One I Know’.

The upcoming release will see Tim Burgess and co. collaborate with the Beggars Arkive to put out a new version of the track. It was their second-ever single, and came as the lead track from their debut album ‘Some Friendly’ back in 1990.

For the new RSD version, the audio has been remastered by Frank Arkwright at Abbey Road Studios, and two other tracks are also featured: ‘Imperial 109’ and ‘Everything Changed’. It will be released via Beggars Banquet imprint Situation Two.

According to a new press release, this is one of two upcoming special releases to mark Record Store Day 2025. Details of the second are set to arrive at a later date.

“‘The Only One I Know’ became a Manchester anthem. Blending swirling Hammond organ, infectious basslines and Tim Burgess’ dreamy vocals, the track peaked at Number Nine on the UK charts,” a description reads.

“A defining moment in the baggy era, it remains a club favourite and a key part of the band’s legacy. Over 30 years later, now remastered and available on picture disc, its hypnotic groove is set to captivate listeners for decades still to come.”

The upcoming release follows another RSD special The Charlatans dropped with Beggars Arkive last year, when they shared breakthrough single ‘Indian Rope’ on a picture disc for the 2024 edition.

So far, few details have been shared about what exclusive releases and new pressings will be made available for Record Store Day 2025. However, last week it was confirmed that one of the new releases would be a special edition of David Bowie‘s ‘Ready, Set, Go!’ live album.

Set to arrive in April, the record is a live recording of Bowie’s September 8, 2003 interactive satellite event, which took place at Riverside Studios in Hammersmith, London.

This year’s RSD will take place on Saturday April 12, marking the 18th edition of the annual event. So far, both Post Malone and Sam Fender have been announced as official ambassadors of the 2025 edition.

For the latter, it comes as he is gearing up to release his third album ‘People Watching’ later this month, and will see him share two new songs as part of a special EP to celebrate.

By taking on the role, Post Malone and Sam Fender follow in the footsteps of Taylor Swift, Kate Bush, The 1975, Noel Gallagher and Elton John.

Over 270 independent record shops across the UK – as well as thousands more globally – will get involved in RSD25 and, as ever, there will also be a wide variety of in-store parties and a celebration of independent record store culture.

It has also been confirmed that a select group of the UK’s vinyl shops will be profiled in a new YouTube series to celebrate the event.
