The Mars Volta debuted an as-yet-unannounced album while opening for Deftones in Portland last night (February 25).
At their first show of the year, the progressive rock outfit surprised fans at the Moda Center by exclusively playing unheard material, a move that follows rumours that a new 18-track record titled ‘Lucro sucio; Los ojos del vacio’ was set for release later this year, after leaked product listings circulated social media.
Per the PRP, previous leaks of their rumoured ninth album suggested an April 11 release, though the band have yet to confirm those details. However, fans in attendance at last night’s show have shared since footage of their set, which was reportedly 18 songs as rumours suggested.
A setlist from MetalInjection reveals potential song titles include ‘Fin’, ‘Voice in My Knives’, ‘Poseedora de mi sombra’, ‘Detrás de la puerta dorada’ and ‘Lucro sucio’. Check out footage from the gig below.
The Mars Volta will be on the road with Deftones throughout April alongside Fleshwater, with the forthcoming trek also including performances in Seattle, San Francisco, Inglewood, Las Vegas, Austin, Nashville, New York, Washington, D.C. and other cities. The tour is set to wrap up in Boston on April 8, and you can find any remaining tickets here.
