Jenna Ortega joined The Weeknd in a sombre music video for ‘Drive’ – watch below.

The Trey Edward Shults-directed visuals dropped on Friday (April 18), and see the singer – real name Abel Tesfaye – alongside Ortega, weaving through amusement parks and large stretches of road in late-night drives.

Undercut with a quiet sense of disconnection, the video sees them part ways, and ends with The Weeknd appearing in a near overflowing bathtub while the Wednesday star drives alone.

The song originally appeared on ‘Hurry Up Tomorrow‘, Tesfaye’s latest album, and is the basis of an upcoming feature film of the same name starring himself, Ortega and Barry Keoghan. Set for release on May 16, the new film is directed by Shults and co-written and co-produced by The Weeknd.

Hurry Up Tomorrow follows a fictionalised version of Tesfaye, who is “plagued by insomnia” and becomes embroiled in an “odyssey with a stranger who begins to unravel the very core of his existence”.

Tesfaye has spoken about retiring his stage name recently, which is also hinted at in the trailer for the film, which you can watch here.

Hurry Up Tomorrow is thought to be the final project he’ll release under the Weeknd moniker, with his album by the same name given a four-star review from NME and described as “a fitting – and intriguing – swansong”.

“Though ‘Hurry Up Tomorrow’ has plenty of his usual moody synth-pop, it’s also speckled with experimentation: he pulls off throbbing Brazilian funk on ‘São Paulo’ and flirts with Kanye-style chipmunk soul on ‘Niagara Falls’,” it reads.

“If this is a swansong for The Weeknd, it’s a fitting one. Tesfaye is pushing forward before he exhausts the collective fascination with his alter ego, and that’s no small achievement.”

In other news, in keeping with the amusement parks seen in the video, The Weeknd has also teased a surprise appearance at Coachella 2025 this weekend, with plans for a “Ferris wheel takeover” at the festival.

Taking to Instagram earlier this week, The Weeknd – who headlined Coachella in 2022 and 2018 – told fans that he would be hosting a “Ferris wheel takeover” at this year’s edition. “See you in the desert,” he added, tagging Coachella in the post.

The official poster suggests that the event will be in support of the singer’s new psychological thriller.
