Apple TV+ has announced a new five-part Martin Scorsese documentary that will feature a slew of A-list celebrities – find out more below.
Titled Mr. Scorsese, the five-part documentary portrait is set to be directed by esteemed filmmaker Rebecca Miller, best known for projects like She Came To Me and Personal Velocity.
While a release date for Mr. Scorsese has yet to be announced, Apple TV+ has teased that it is “coming soon”.

Per a press release, the five-part documentary series will chronicle Scorsese’s life and legendary career through chats with the iconic filmmaker himself, along with “unrestricted access” to his private archives and “never-before-seen interviews with friends, family, and creative collaborators”.
Among the star-studded roster of talent speaking to Apple TV+ for the documentary are his long-time collaborators Robert De Niro and Leonardo DiCaprio, as well as titans like Daniel Day-Lewis, Steven Spielberg, Margot Robbie, Mick Jagger, Robbie Robertson, Sharon Stone, Jodie Foster, Cate Blanchett and more. His wife Helen Morris and his children and childhood friends will also participate.
Rebecca Miller’s documentary will also cover a large span of Scorsese’s life, beginning with his student films while attending the New York University, to present day.
According to Miller, per a press statement, the project has been in the works for several years, and is so extensive that it’s changed from a single-part documentary into the current reiteration as a five-parter: “His work and life are so vast and so compelling that the piece evolved from one to five parts over a five-year period; crafting this documentary alongside my longtime collaborators has been one of the defining experiences of my life as a filmmaker.”
Scorsese’s latest output was 2023’s Killers of The Flower Moon, which scored a glowing five-star review from NME: “Popular music from the 1920s, Native American songs and Robbie Robertson’s bluesy score help round off this remarkable Western, a film that will linger in the minds of its audience for a long time.”
Earlier this month (May 1), it was revealed that he is producing a documentary about the late Pope Francis, featuring his last on-camera interview. The pontiff, who became pope in 2013 after his predecessor Benedict XVI resigned, died on April 21 at the age of 88.
In February, Martin Scorsese joined names such as Spike Lee, Wes Anderson, and Willem Dafoe in protesting the closure of some of Rome’s most iconic venues, including 50 cinemas. He also surprised film fans by announcing he is working on a project with wrestler-turned-actor Dwayne Johnson.
