Fall Out Boy have responded to Glen Powell‘s spoof music video on Saturday Night Live, offering him a job in the process.

The Running Man star hosted the sketch comedy show over on November 13, and as part of his monologue unveiled an old clip he made when he was a teenager.

“When I was a teen I directed some of my own films,” he explained. “They were a little experimental, emotionally nuanced. I was watching a lot of French New Wave at the time. I think you’ll see the influence.”

The old clip then played, showing a young Powell running down a road in frustration, soundtracked by Fall Out Boy’s ‘Sugar, We’re Goin’ Down’. He’s then seen lip syncing to the song while wearing a boat captain’s hat.

Responding to the clip on X, the band’s official account wrote: “Want to direct the next fob music video @glenpowell?”.

Powell’s monologue also saw him bring a UPS driver on stage, whom he had taken a selfie with years ago when the star got the news that he was originally meant to host SNL. However, the appearance was subsequently cancelled amid COVID and Top Gun: Maverick‘s release delay and, as a result, the driver thought he was a liar over his original claim.

However, when Powell got the call to host again in 2025, his sisters tracked the driver down, the actor saying: “So to prove to Mitch that I am not a liar, I flew him all the way to New York… He thought it was a scam, but he still came, and he’s sitting in the audience tonight.”

Mitch then joined the star on stage, where they took another selfie together.

Powell is currently starring in Stephen King adaptation The Running Man, which is directed by Edgar Wright.

In NME‘s three-star review, we said: “The best of Wright’s take on The Running Man comes in the first half, as he sets up a world where sphere-shaped, all-seeing Rover Cams buzz around in the sky, videoing everything.”

In other news, Fall Out Boy recently released a cover of ‘It Feels Like Christmas’ from The Muppet Christmas Carol for the Spotify Singles series.

Band member Patrick Stump also returned to his hardcore roots with an appearance during Weekend Nachos’ show last Friday, with the group originally part of the same Chicago hardcore scene as Fall Out Boy.
