Sexyy Red has deleted AI-generated images of herself with Martin Luther King Jr. after being called out by his daughter.
The 26-year-old rapper divided opinion on Monday (January 20) when she shared an image created by artificial intelligence which showed her alongside the late civil rights activist in what appears to be a nightclub.
She also shared a second image of herself with MLK, showing her photoshopped alongside him at the historic March On Washington in August 1963.
The posts, however, soon captured the attention of Bernice King – the daughter of the civil rights leader – who took to X/Twitter to call out the artist and insist she take down the images.

In new tweet, Sexyy Red posts an edit of herself over a photo of Martin Luther King Jr. protesting during the Civil Rights Movement:

“This is intentionally dishonouring, deplorable, and disrespectful of my family and my father, who is not here to respond himself because he was assassinated for working for your civil and human rights and to end war and poverty,” King wrote on X. “Please delete.”
Sexyy Red quickly took down the posts, and King added to the social media thread.
“Please don’t project your thoughts onto me. I don’t believe Sexyy Red to be a ‘degenerate’, ‘ghetto’, or ‘trash’. I have spoken out in the past about the use of and comparison to either of my parents to denigrate other people,” King wrote.

“I just don’t understand this type of use of my father’s image (on #MLKDay, no less), in a way that does not convey what we know to be true about his service and sacrifice,” she added. “Even if you disagree with him or with his tactics or even believe things said about him by people who hated him, why do this?”
As well as removing the posts, Sexxy Red also commented on the issue and apologised to King for the upset caused. “You ain’t wrong, never meant to disrespect your family my apologies. Just reposted something I saw that I thought was innocent,” she wrote.

King also spoke more about the issue by responding to another user on X. Reaching out to her, the user wrote: “lol not to be that guy but them n****s in Atlanta been putting yo daddy on flyers for YEARS. Also, Mississippi and Alabama tryna celebrate Robert E Lee Day on your dad’s day. I think that’s more pressing but hey what do I know.”
In response, King shared: “How can you tell me how I should respond to disrespect of my father or assume that I don’t respond when it happens in other instances? I do, and have done so on this platform.”

In other Sexyy Red news, it was recently confirmed that the rapper would be joining the line-up for Rolling Loud California 2025 alongside A$AP Rocky, Playboi Carti and Peso Pluma.
She also said in November that she voted for Democratic nominee Kamala Harris in the US presidential election, despite her past comments supporting Republican nominee – and now president-elect – Donald Trump.
