Strange Basin #5 with the Zombie
Bruce Springsteen has discussed his involvement with his biopic Deliver Me From Nowhere, saying set visits brought back some memories and describing the film as “fantastic”.
Directed by Scott Cooper, the film stars Jeremy Allen White as the singer during the early ’80s, and centres around the personal and professional circumstances that led to him making his seminal work, 1982’s ‘Nebraska’. The film is yet to announce a release date but is expected to come to cinemas this year.
Speaking to Variety’s Awards Circuit Podcast, he discussed how the project came about. “They pitched the idea, and I said, ‘It sounds like fun,’” Springsteen he recalled. “It’s an interesting concept, because it’s only a couple of years out of my life”.
He continued: “It’s ’81, ’82, and centred around the creation of that particular record while I was simultaneously recording ‘Born in the USA’ and also going through some personal difficulties that I’ve been living with my whole life. But it’s fantastic”.
He revealed he wasn’t present for a lot of the filming, but made regular trips to the set and was taken aback by what he saw. “I was on tour during a lot of it, so they filmed a good amount of it without me there,” he said. “But I was on set sometimes”.
He continued: “It was interesting to see it played out, to see your grandmother’s house again, and to go inside and get a general feeling of what it was like when you were very young. So I enjoyed all those parts of it”.
Recently, White revealed his singing prowess as he introduced footage of him singing Bruce Springsteen’s classic ‘Born To Run’ during a presentation at Cinemacon. Elsewhere, cast member Stephen Graham spoke about how he was brought to tears by a text from the artist, praising his performance as Springsteen’s father.
In other Springsteen news, The Boss is gearing up to release seven never-heard-before full records on ‘Tracks II: The Lost Albums’. Arriving on June 27, the collection will comprise 83 songs and is set to “fill in rich chapters of Springsteen’s expansive career timeline — while offering invaluable insight into his life and work as an artist.”
