Edinburgh’s DJ DAV pleads guilty to child sex offences

Edinburgh-based DJ DAV has pleaded guilty to child sex offences.

The DJ – real name Dave Angelo Valdez – appeared at Edinburgh Sheriff Court last Thursday (April 17), where he pleaded guilty to possessing indecent images of children and causing a child to engage in sexual activity.

Per a report from the Daily Record, Valdez, 25, coerced a 14-year-old girl to send him indecent images and perform sex acts for him online, while recording the footage on a mobile phone. He then reportedly sent “five to 10” images of himself masturbating to the victim.

Fiscal deputy Cheryl Porter said that Valdez had made initial contact with the child, who lives in England, on a chat site, before moving their conversations to Skype in January 2021.

The footage was discovered when police raided his home in Edinburgh’s Old Town last year, after receiving intelligence on his crimes. They also reportedly found “around 2000” indecent images of children as young as four years old on seven mobile phones, dated between April 2019 and March 2021.

The court was told that hundreds of the images were rated as “Category A”, the most extreme category for prohibited images of children under Scottish law.

Valdez will be sentenced by the Edinburgh Sheriff Court next month. Sheriff Matthew Auchincloss said that a custodial sentence is the most likely outcome, per the Daily Record.

He has been placed on the sex offenders register and instructed by a sheriff to “get your affairs in order”, as he faces a lengthy jail term when he returns for sentencing.

Under the DJ name DAV, Valdez regularly performed across nightclubs in Edinburgh over the past four years, including The Mash House, Cabaret Voltaire and Superico.
