Snoop Dogg celebrated 4/20 yesterday (April 20) with a new music video for his track ‘Last Dance With Mary Jane’, which features Jelly Roll and the late Tom Petty.

The track comes from his most recent LP, 2024’s ‘Missionary‘, which saw him team up with Dr. Dre to follow up on his seminal 1993 debut LP ‘Doggystyle’

Directed by Dave Meyers, the newly shared music video includes cameos from the likenesses of Tupac Shakur and Bob Marley, as well as animated depictions of Jelly Roll and Petty, included in reference to the track sampling Petty and the Heartbreakers’ classic, ‘Mary Jane’s Last Dance’.

‘Last Dance With Mary Jane’ sees Snoop having a supposed last fling with marijuana after a visit to the doctor, who tells him he must quit. Subsequently, he indulges in a journey into his past and an imagined future, which sees him run into Tupac in the afterlife.

It’s my last dance with Mary Jane, one more time to kill the pain,” raps Snoop on the chorus, before concluding: “Even before the fame, she was my novocaine, you know it ain’t ‘gon change.”

Alongside Petty and Jelly Roll, the album also featured 50 Cent and Eminem. Following its release, it was also revealed that Snoop and Dre sampled a song by a learning disabilities charity in London.

Reviewing the album, NME awarded the record three stars and said it “was an underwhelming sequel to a hip-hop classic.”

It added: “Dre and Snoop forgot the legacy they created for the West Coast with ‘Doggystyle’ and – although there are flashes of fun – the forgettable collection barely scratches the surface of their legendary status.”

In other Snoop news, in January the rapper responded to the “hate” he received after performing at the Crypto Ball to celebrate the inauguration of US President Donald Trump.

The hip-hop icon – alongside Soulja Boy and Rick Ross – performed at the inaugural Crypto Ball in Washington DC, an event described as a “celebratory setting” intended to honour “America’s first ‘crypto president’”. Snoop instantly received backlash online and initially responded by uploading a video of him and Ross having fun at the ball, with the caption: “Got a real Crip up in the Crypto Ball, bang bang.”

He later followed up, telling fans on an Instagram video: “Get your life right [and] stop worrying about mine. I’m cool, I’m together. Still a Black man, still 100 per cent Black. All out ’til you ball out, ’til you fall out. I ain’t going nowhere, cuh, I’m right here. On crypto!”
