Paris Paloma

Fans in London spotted Emma Thompson in the crowd at a Paris Paloma show, singing along to her feminist anthem ‘Labour’ – watch footage below.

As part of her UK and Ireland tour, Paloma made a stop in London last night (June 6) to play her biggest headline show to date in the city at O2 Shepherd’s Bush Empire.

Those at the show later shared clips of the Bridget Jones: Mad About The Boy star dancing to her breakout hit from the balcony, with one TikTok user remarking that Thompson was “definitely one of the girls”.

Paloma rose to prominence when her resonant single ‘Labour’ – with it’s cathartic bridge: “All day, every day, therapist, mother, maid / Nymph, then a virgin, nurse, then a servant” – went viral.

Speaking to NME at the time, Paloma said of the song: “It is so powerful to me that people have applied such personal experiences to the track. It’s been this vehicle for women, and people of all sorts of areas, to resonate with the topic.”

With the track broaching themes of misogyny and emotional manipulation, many on social media joked about how fitting it was for some of Thompson’s characters, with one joking: “That one was for Alan Rickman”, who played her cheating husband Harry in Love Actually.

“Love actually is all around us,” wrote another, “and also a lot of pent up anger towards men”. Nodding to her roles in Harry Potter and Nanny McPhee, another added: “This is how I imagine Sybill Trelawney and Nanny McPhee would be spending their free time […] raging against the patriarchy.”

Last year, Thompson’s daughter Gaia Wise (A Walk in the Woods) voiced Héra in The Lord of the Rings: The War of the Rohirrim, while Paloma performed on ‘The Rider’, an original song created for the film.

The folk singer is set to wrap up her UK and Ireland tour tomorrow (June 8) in Dublin. you can find any remaining tickets here.
