Jessie J has shared that she has been diagnosed with “early breast cancer”, and will be taking a break to undergo surgery.

The BRIT Award-winning artist, 37, made the news public in a video message to fans on social media, saying: “Before [April single] ‘No Secrets’ came out, I was diagnosed with early breast cancer. I’m highlighting the word ‘early’.

“Cancer sucks in any form, but I’m holding onto the word ‘early’. I have been in and out of tests throughout this whole period. I just wanted to be open and share it. One, because selfishly, I do not talk about it enough – I’m not processing it, because I’m working so hard.

“I also know how much sharing in the past has helped me, with other people giving me their love and support, and also their own stories. I’m an open book. It breaks my heart that so many people are going through so much – similar and worse. That’s the bit that kills me.”

She continued: “I just want to let you guys know. It wasn’t something I’d planned, but yeah. I’m getting to keep my nipples – that’s good. It’s a weird topic and a weird situation.

“To get diagnosed with this as I’m putting out a song called ‘No Secrets’, right before a song called ‘Living My Best Life’ – which was all pre-planned before I found out about this. I mean, you can’t make it up.

“I am going to disappear for a bit after Summertime Ball to have my surgery.” You can watch the video in the post above.

In a separate upload on Instagram Stories, she said: “Just shared (posted) something super personal I have been holding onto for 9 weeks. The timing of it has been mad but also beautiful and given me this incredible perspective in this time.

“But honestly I need to process it and talk about it and, I need a hug. You have loved me through all my good and hard times. And I don’t want this to be any different.”

The singer will perform at the Summertime Ball 2025 at Wembley Stadium in London next Sunday (June 15). She played an intimate, acoustic show at the Union Chapel in the capital last month.

This autumn, Jessie J is scheduled to embark on her UK and European ‘No Secrets’ tour. The string of concerts includes a night at the London Palladium.

In July last year, the ‘Price Tag’ hitmaker revealed that she had been diagnosed with obsessive compulsive disorder (OCD) and attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD). Prior to that, she had experienced several health issues, including a miscarriage in late 2021, going deaf in one ear and being temporarily unable to walk properly in 2020, and suffering a stroke at the age of 18.

Jessie J and her partner, basketball player Chanan Colman, welcomed a son, Sky, in May 2023.
