Britney Spears has responded to claims by her ex-husband Kevin Federline after he expressed concerns about the singer’s mental health.
Spears and Federline married in 2004 before they filed for divorce in 2007. They also have two sons – Sean Preston and Jayden James.
In his new memoir You Thought You Knew, Federline claimed via The New York Times, that he was concerned over Spears’ current “situation,” which he believes is “racing toward something irreversible.”
“It’s become impossible to pretend everything’s OK. From where I sit, the clock is ticking, and we’re getting close to the 11th hour,” he reportedly wrote. “Something bad is going to happen if things don’t change, and my biggest fear is that our sons will be left holding the pieces.”
He added: “Now, more than ever, [our children] need your support. I’ve been their buffer for years, but now it’s bigger than me. It’s time to sound the alarm.”
Federline also documented concerns about their sons’ time at Spears’ house when they were teenagers.
He allegedly wrote: “They would awaken sometimes at night to find her standing silently in the doorway, watching them sleep – ‘Oh, you’re awake?’ – with a knife in her hand. Then she’d turn around and pad off without explanation.”
Spears has since responded to the claims through a representative with a statement via Entertainment Weekly.
“With news from Kevin’s book breaking, once again he and others are profiting off her and sadly it comes after child support has ended with Kevin,” the representative said. “All she cares about are her kids, Sean Preston and Jayden James and their well-being during this sensationalism. She detailed her journey in her memoir (Spears published her memoir The Woman In Me in 2023).”
In her book, Spears wrote that Federline “took my world away from me” during their custody battle, adding: “He knocked the breath out of me. And my family did not hold me.”
Federline is yet to comment publicly on Spears’ response.
Elsewhere, Bobby Brown recently criticised the singer’s cover of his classic song ‘My Prerogative’, saying that she “butchered” it.
