Soulja Boy has launched his own handheld console but has been accused of ripping off a rival for the SouljaGame Flip.

Rapper Soulja Boy is a diehard video game fan and earlier this week, he announced his own handheld console, the SouljaGame Flip.

“The ultimate handheld gaming console endorsed by Soulja Boy,” the console is, according to a product description, “designed for gaming enthusiasts who crave high-quality performance on the go.”

“This sleek device combines cutting-edge technology with a robust library of retro and modern games, offering an unparalleled gaming experience. With intuitive controls and long-lasting battery life, stay immersed in your favorite games for hours. Join the gaming revolution and elevate your entertainment with the SouljaGame Flip, boasting premium craftsmanship and exceptional value. Own it now and step up your game!”

The SouljaGame Flip is available for $436.50, making it cheaper than the recently-released ROG Xbox Ally and the Nintendo Switch 2

However, Soulja Boy has been accused by retro hardware company Retroid of ripping off their Retroid Pocket Flip 2 Handheld. The SouljaGame website has seemingly lifted images straight from Retroids, while the console itself is reportedly just a reskinned version of Retroid’s Pocket Flip 2 that Soulja Boy is selling for more than twice the original price.

“I didn’t know about this. This is not any kind of official licensing deal,” a Retroid spokesperson said in a statement to Retrododo. “He does not have permission to rebrand our products and sell them as his own. The Retroid Pocket Flip 2 is patented in the U.S by ourselves”.

Soulja Boy is yet to respond to the accusations.

Back in 2021, Soulja Boy announced he was the new owner of Atari but the gaming company quickly denied his claims. “We know that CEO of Atari is a dream job, but that honor belongs to Wade Rosen,” they wrote on X. And in 2018, Soulja Boy was forced to remove branded emulators from sale after Nintendo threatened the rapper with legal action.

In other news, Microsoft launched its new handheld console the ROG Xbox Ally X last month but fans are still struggling to get hold of one.
