Death Grips have confirmed they’re working on a long-awaited new album.

The news follows the rumoured split of the cult experimental hip-hop duo composed of vocalist MC Ride – real name Stefan Burnett – and producer and drummer Zach Hill.

In February, leaked texts from co-founder and audio engineer Andy Morin showed him claiming that the group was “over”. However, Burnett and Hill responded to the rumours in April by releasing a short statement on social media: “Despite rumour and hearsay, we remain active as Death Grips”.

The statement was signed by Burnett and Hill, but not Morin; it is unclear whether Morin remains in the group.

Now, further confirmation of the band’s activity has been revealed, with the band taking to Instagram to share photos of a recording studio. “The Writing and recording of our next album is underway,” the caption read. “We’re looking forward to the new Death Grips record.” The statement is signed once again by Burnett and Hill only.

The band’s last full-length album was 2018’s ‘The Year of the Snitch’, and since then they’ve released EP ‘Gmail And The Restraining Orders’ as part of Warp Records’ 30th anniversary celebrations.

Coming to attention with their 2011 mixtape ‘Exmilitary’, Death Grips would then release their debut album ‘The Money Store’ a year later. After singing with Epic Records off the back of ‘The Money Store’, they were then dropped when they leaked their second album ‘No Love Deep Web’ as a free download, breaching their contract.

Following a brief split in 2014 after their double album ‘The Powers That B’, Death Grips would reunite a year later, releasing 2016’s ‘Bottomless Pit’ and ‘Year Of The Snitch’ afterwards.

Elsewhere, Jenna Ortega has opened up about her Death Grips fandom.
