Alternative angle footage of viral ‘cybergoth dance party’ video emerges online

An alternative angle of the viral ‘cybergoth dance party’ has been unveiled on social media.

The original video went viral in the early 2010s when it was uploaded in September 2011. Filmed in Düsseldorf, the video has since been remixed into a number of memes overlaying other tunes over the cybergoths’ spirited dancing – including Thomas The Tank Engine’s theme, and ‘All I Want For Christmas Is You‘.

Now, an X/Twitter user has seemingly uploaded an alternate angle of the famous video, “showing more cybergoth dance moves to Early Hardstyle, ending where the famous [clip] begins”. This tweet actually stems from a clip uploaded to YouTube in March 2011 – months before its counterpart would take the Internet by storm.

However, users have since reacted to the reuploaded clip on X/Twitter, hailing the video as “historically significant as getting a different angle of the JFK assassination,” whilst another singled out one dancer wearing fishnets and a purple skirt: “I have been obsessed with this queen since I first started using the internet.”

In recent goth news, The Cult’s Ian Astbury has spoken to NME about the recent resurgence of goth in pop culture. Astbury pointed out Ethel Cain as an example of a newer artist paving the way for future goth, saying: “I was at one of her first shows. I saw her at the Fonda and I knew it from the get-go. Holy fuck, I was blown away! She’s very quickly been absorbed into mainstream culture, she’s walking for Marc Jacobs now, for example.”

He also gave Heilung as an example, explaining: “Those guys are doing a pagan folk, revivalist ritual thing. I went to see them at The Shrine in LA and people weren’t applauding, they were making intuitive animal sounds like coyotes and hawks! Their audience was so mixed too, and I loved that. That blend is what I’m pushing with The Cult.”
