Krept & Konan have announced they will be launching their Saveways – the UK’s first large-scale supermarket tailored to the needs of Black, Asian, and ethnic communities.
The legendary UK rap duo revealed that they will open the 15,000 square-foot superstore in their hometown of Croydon next month (February 1). Located at 102 Beddington Lane, Saveways will stock a wide range of products to reflect the area’s cultural diversity – including fresh halal meat and poultry, exotic fish, and world-inspired baked goods.
Additionally, Saveways will sell global produce, chilled and frozen foods, and ethnic cosmetics and hair care products to cater to over 257,000 residents in the Croydon and Sutton area who identify as Black, Asian, or of mixed ethnicity.
“It’s an honour for us to partner up on this venture,” Krept & Konan said. “We are all about representation in the community and finding solutions. We are all from underrepresented communities, so this is a perfect partnership. Saveways is game-changing for our community, and we are excited to bring this vision to life.”
Saveways is a collaboration between the south Londoners and entrepreneur Kaysor Ali, whose portfolio includes successful franchises such as Steakout and Smacks Hamburgers. The business venture is expected to create over 30 jobs and offer modern shopping features such as click-and-collect, online ordering, and home delivery via platforms like Uber Eats, Deliveroo and Just Eat.
Ali also commented on the launch of Saveways: “Together, we’ve combined our skills, networks, and passion to create a supermarket experience that not only serves the community but sets a new standard for quality, inclusivity, and excellence in the UK food retail space. Saveways is more than just a supermarket – it’s a statement of culture, unity, and progress for our communities.”
Krept & Konan have made other huge entrepreneurial moves. In 2018, they opened their own restaurant called Crepes & Cones, which shut down in 2023. Krept also launched a baby skincare line named Nala’s Baby, which has won three Mother & Baby Awards and is now stocked in major UK supermarkets.
Saveways’ launch will come six days before Krept & Konan’s highly-anticipated third studio album, ‘Young Kingz II’ – the sequel to their 2013 Guinness World Record-setting mixtape ‘Young Kingz’ and first independent album in 10 years.
In an interview with NME last November, Krept said the album feels like “a full circle moment” for the group. “When we were independent, we released the project that changed our life. Now we’re back to being independent [over] 10 years after the original one came out and even the themes – the growth, reflecting on life, where we’re at now, losses, loved ones – [are the same]. This needs to be the sequel of ‘Young Kings’.”
‘Young Kingz II’ will be released on February 7 – you can pre-order the album here. Krept & Konan will perform an intimate gig at London’s OUTERNET on March 6 to celebrate the release, and you can find any available tickets here.
